Paraprofessionals play an important role in education. A paraprofessional -- often referred to as an aide -- is a special-education worker who is not licensed to teach, but performs many duties both individually with students and organizationally in the classroom. Your child may be assigned a one-on-one paraprofessional for tutoring or tutoring in a small group setting. Students may interact with a paraprofessional assigned to the classroom or grade level as well. Here at Lois Allen each of our grade levels have a "para" who is dedicated to each classroom teacher and every student. In general Lois Allen paraprofessionals are working in support of the teacher, and not teaching themselves. We have learned that having a certified, enthusiastic, well-prepared paraprofessional can make an enormous difference in the efficiency in our classrooms and the implementation of our tutoring programs. |
