Lois Allen Wolves

We have 32 computers in our Computer Lab. Ms. Prosser is our Ed Tech Specialist that helps our students learn how to type and use everyday computer programs. The Computer Lab is where the students take their reading tests, such as SRI, Star Early, Star Reading and Accelerated Reader. These tests help your student's teacher place them in the appropriate reading groups and allow them to track their progress. We have added our new math program "Everyday Math" to our computers. This new program works along with the curriculums our teachers are teaching in class, so each program is grade level appropriate. One of the best programs to start our students (beginning in 3rd grade) is our typing program called "Type to Learn 3". This program helps them learn where to place their fingers on a keyboard and as they use this program, their typing skills improve. All students are introduced to the internet beginning in 3rd grade. Our district has a strict internet policy and only allows our students to log onto appropriate web sites, but remember all students must have a signed permission slip from you in order to access the internet. Below are some of the programs offered to our students:

  • Pondering Problems: This program gives our students word math problems. A colorful screen appears and the story reads...Twelve geese were floating in a pond and three flew away how many are left? Then it gives the student multiple choices.
  • Penny Panda and Coin Critters: This program helps our students understand the concept of money.
  • Clock Shop: This program helps our students with telling time. The program introduces our students to a hand clock and moves forward to the digital time.
  • Word Way and Write Way: These programs are for students 3rd grade and above. It allows them to work on their contractions, spelling, and punctuation. It also teaches our students past tense, vocabulary and connecting words.
  • Wild West Math: This is a great program that helps our 4th through 6th graders who are working on rounding, place value and basic math facts.
  • Thinking Things 1, 2 and 3, Galactic Brain Builders: These are great programs for all of our students. These programs help build memory and matching skills and teaches them their colors and shapes as well.
