Hello Everyone, My name is Sharon Lufkin. I have been teaching for about 34 years. I have been teaching First and Second grades here at Lois Allen since 1991. My Master's Degree is in Montessori Education. I have four children and one roly-poly dog. In the classroom, behavior goals focus on the Thre Personal Standards---Be Respectful; Make Good Decisions; Be A Problem Solver. Students who have moved their magnets to BLUE by the end of the day have shown themselves exemplary in these goals, settting examples for the other students. They also volunteer to be academic mentors/coaches for their teammates. Most work is done in a whole-group setting. We do some Center and Small Group exploration-tutoring time. The students are divided into four-six person teams. Teamwork is encouraged in order to support academic as well as social growth. Homework is given in Math, Reading, and Word Practice Monday through Thursday. It is meant to be a partner experience with someone at home. It is also a communication link with home. If there are any questions or concerns, you can flag a note to me in the homework. I collect homework every morning between 9:15 and 9:30. You may also call the office (674-4430) or e-mail me -- . Each child at Lois Allen has a personal account set up on Study Island. Go here to work on math and reading skills, play games and learn about the Nevada Academic Standards.
