Summer Institute 2009

The Summer institute is an intensive one-week experience designed to introduce elementary teachers to historical content with sound pedagogy and creative approaches to historical education. It will be taught by Dr. Doris Dwyer, Western Nevada College history and humanities professor, other distinguished guest speakers, and a master teacher from Reno.

Nevada Humanities sponsors the Summer Institute in conjunction with the Great Basin Chautauqua, a popular humanities program in which scholars, teachers, and students portray historical figures. Participants in the Summer Institute will attend Chautauqua events during the week and learn how to bring Chautauqua alive in their classrooms, making the Summer Institute a truly comprehensive, cohesive program.
