Teaching American History Project
  October 7, 14, and 28: Book Club

Meeting Notes from Angela:

Tom, Sue and I spoke about various ways to approach the text. We would like to have the group approach the next two reading assignments differently than we originally stated. Instead of viewing chapters 6, 7, & 11 from just the lens of class, we would like you to approach the chapters using all three EQs and all three lenses.

I have attached a reading log (which you can download at the right) that may help you organize the historical questions you create as you read. When you view the reading log, please do not feel that you must fill in every square with an historical question. Instead, use the log as a tool to classify the questions you do have by linking them to an essential question and to a specific lens.

You will also note that there is now space to develop an HQ under the heading of one of the EQs while using your own lens. This is in response to some of the very astute comments from yesterday (like the comments on the use of violence in civil society in regards to lynching).

For the Cohorts group, you can also download a document that lists the four EQs developed by the Vertical Teams group, so that you can see one more way that people are using EQs to read Foner and to guide their classroom curricula.
