2010 Northern Nevada Teaching American History

The Ways Across the West:
From Trail to Rail to Highway
Applications due by September 9, 2009
Description: A major goal of the Northern Nevada Teaching American History Project is to increase the content knowledge of 7-12 classroom teachers in American history. To meet this goal, TAHP will offer 8 symposiums throughout the year. A cohort of thirty secondary American history teachers will be selected to participate in the year-long program. Each month the TAH Cohorts will attend a seminar, which focuses on the theme of Eric Foner’s book, The Story of American Freedom. The seminars will be led by University of Nevada, history Professor Thomas Smith and TAHP Director, Sue Davis. These seminars will focus on theme of American Freedom while providing pedagogical practices and a stipend of $1050.
Requirements:
- Only secondary teachers (7-12) currently (2009-2010 school year) teaching American History in northern Nevada may apply.

- All applicants must submit application to Sue Davis, TAHP Director, by September 9, 2009.
- Selected participants must attend ALL monthly seminars and complete a lesson portfolio of 5 lessons in order to receive the $1050 stipend in May.
All applicants must meet the following:
- Teacher must be a contracted certified employee at a Northern Nevada school district or charter school.
- Teacher’s current teaching assignment (2009-2010) includes American history in
grades 7-12.
