Washoe County School District | |
Since 2001, the U.S. Department of Education has awarded Washoe County School District four grants totaling almost four million dollars to conduct the Teaching American History Project. The purpose of the grant, as envisioned in the original congressional legislation, is to improve content knowledge on the part of teachers to enable them to better perform the tasks of teaching traditional American history. Sue Davis, a veteran secondary classroom teacher, has served as the TAHP Director since 2003. As director of the grant, Sue will coordinate with the TAHP partners and provide professional development opportunities for teachers of northern Nevada. The TAHP events scheduled for the next three years continue to offer the excellence in programming. Questions about the program can be directed to the TAHP Director, Sue Davis. |

UNR, Department of History has been the inaugural partner in the Teaching American. University of Nevada, Reno History faculty are involved in almost every Teaching American History Project program as facilitators and instructors. Our faculty includes specialists in U.S., European, Latin American, and Asian history, in areas ranging from cultural history to the history of science and medicine. We emphasize interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship, bridging the worlds of history, literature, art, anthropology, and geography. Professor Bill Rowley is the University of Nevada, Reno coordinator who collaborates with WCSD to make the arrangements for the Teaching American History Project professional development programs. In the Teaching American History Project, we also work with curriculum specialist faculty in the University of Nevada, Reno College of Education. Professor Kathy Obenchain will assist teachers with the latest pedagogical practices for American history teachers. |

Truckee Meadows Community College | |
| The Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) history department will provide instructors for the Teaching American History Project professional development programs. The history department at TMCC offers a variety of courses, ranging from introductory survey courses in American, European and Nevada history to special topics in history, such as the history of U.S. involvement in Vietnam, the history of the Civil War, Mexican history, gender and history, and African American history. TMCC faculty will facilitate book clubs, primary source workshops, and the summer institute. | ||

| The Nevada Museum of Art (NMA) provides a forum for the presentation of creative ideas and aspires to serve as a cultural resource for the community. Through innovative programming and scholarship, the Museum provides the opportunity for people of all ages to encounter, engage, and enjoy a diversity of art experiences. The NMA's focus on its collections, education, and outreach are means to conserve, convey, and expand artistic knowledge. NMA educational staff will provide content and interpretations of exhibits that relate to American history. Participants will learn how to connect the visual arts to American history and learn teaching strategies that will engage their students with visual representations of history. | ||

| The National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) connects history with the automobile. When the National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) opened in 1989, it was reported to have set the standard for the world of automobile museums with its dramatic displays, in-depth interpretation, extensive collection and exciting opportunities for visitor participation. Like people, every car has a story, a little tale about who and where and why. The Museum displays more than 200 cars from 1892 to present, the majority of which are from the world famous collection of the late gaming pioneer and avid collector, Bill Harrah. | ||
