Information about our TAHP Historian:
Dr. Thomas Smith is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. in History at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2006. His research looks to understand the connection between reformers and the development of a transnational discourse of rights in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Specifically, Dr. Smith analyzes the complexities of reformist appeals amidst the context of US and British imperialism. Dr. Smith has published articles in the Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History and the Journal of Transatlantic Studies. He is currently working on a book project entitled Contesting the Color Line: Reform, Race, and Empire and specializes in US and Atlantic history, transnational social movements, and the history of human rights.
