Teaching American History Project
  2008-2009
Lessons

The intent of this section is to provide a clearinghouse for teacher created lesson plans. The lessons were developed by northern Nevada teachers and contain learning activities that reflect a variety of pedagogy, which help make history relevant to our students. Each lesson contains clear and concise directions, is based on Nevada Standards, includes historical background, and provides links to on-line resources. The standard based lessons are organized chronological rather than thematic to help locate history specific content.

Since the first TAHP grant in 2001, we have created a dedicated community of American history educators committed to high professional standards in the teaching of American history in northern Nevada. Building upon the professional learning communities, history teachers at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels will collaborate and develop curriculum and common assessments that promote student achievement in American history.

Notice: The currently posted lesson plans correlate to outdated Nevada Standards. Since the implementation of Vertical History Teams, we will be aligning curriculum with the new history standards, scaffolding history thinking skills, and creating common grade-level assessments and unit plans in American History from elementary through high school. The website will be redesigned and updated regularly to accomodate the newly accepted standards. Please check back soon!
