What is Partners in Education?
Mission Statement
Partners in Education, Inc., a public/private partnership, assists all Washoe County School District students in reaching their full potential, utilizing partnerships, community resources and volunteers to develop and implement diverse educational opportuities.
At the heart of Partners in Education is the Adopt-A-School program. Billinghurst Middle School has the fortune of two prominant local corporations that have joined with us in partnership, Centex Homes and Chili's. The Adopt-A-School progam does the following:
- Reduces on-the-job training costs by helping prepare students while in school.
- Shows students how basic skills are needed in the workplace.
- Better prepares students for work by:
- Exposing students to different career opportunities and their educational requirements
- Increasing student motivation to look ahead to the future
- Increasing student job seeking abilities
- Increasing student awareness of work place requirements and rewards
- Increases student motivation to stay in school and out of trouble.
- Provides adult role models who bring their expertise to the classroom.
- Gives an organization an opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to the community.
- Improves staff morale for school and business.
- Allows schools and community partners to share facilities and resources.
