Reno High Athlete Hits It Out of the Park for Graduation

Student: Anthony Hascheff
School: Reno High School

If Reno High School senior Anthony Hascheff had to choose his favorite among baseball, basketball and football, it would be a difficult choice but his heart lies with baseball.

For the last four years in high school, his fondest memories are those he made being part of the school’s baseball team. His teammates were some of his closest friends and much of his life was planned around his games.

After Anthony graduates from Reno in June, he’ll continue his love of the game at Santa Clara University.

“I want to get an MBA and get a law degree,” he said. “Both of those areas interest me and I want to see what I can do from there.”

Anthony is an Advanced Placement student whose athletics and academics keep him on a tight schedule, currently taking four AP classes this year alone. He’s often said no to having a fuller social life because he keeps his eyes on what’s expected of him in the classroom. It was a lesson well-learned in his first year of high school.

“You just have to stay focused,” Anthony said. “That one day where you take that one break and you end up messing up on a test can really hurt you. The sacrifices you make now are so worth it in the long run. Even during my freshman year, I can remember not being too focused. I got lucky.”

Reno Principal Bob Sullivan called Anthony an “anomaly” among students. He said the senior is at the top of his class.

“He’s relentless,” Sullivan said. “He’s number one in his class. You look at Anthony in physics or any of his classes and he asks why did they get that answer. He needs to know everything. He’s a three-sport athlete and he’s good at all three of them. He’s a good kid, a nice, nice boy.”

Anthony has received a $20,000 scholarship to Santa Clara, which he received as a result of being a straight-A student and being involved in the community. In the past, he’s provided service to his church and helped out with local charity Moms on the Run.

He looks back on his time with high school with particular pride in sports.

“I’m really proud of our baseball team that won the regional championship last year,” he said. “We were actually a team, which doesn’t happen too often. My best friends are the people I play sports with and I wouldn’t trade my friends for anything.”
