Wooster High School Names New Football Coach
Reno, NV (Feb. 10, 2011) - Wooster High School will have a new football coach for the upcoming season. Vince Johnson, who is a teacher and coach at Spanish Springs High School, was named earlier this week as the varsity football coach for the Wooster Colts.
Wooster Principal Debra Biersdorff says she is looking forward to seeing Johnson standing on the
sidelines this fall. "I am confident under Coach Johnson's leadership the Wooster High School
football program will flourish. Coach Johnson brings not only considerable knowledge and
experience, but a positive and professional vision for the football program. The Wooster community
is very excited to welcome him."
Johnson is a Sparks native and former standout football player at Sparks High School, where he
graduated in 1993 and was a three-sport student athlete. He has been coaching football at area
high schools since 1999 and has been the assistant varsity coach at Spanish Springs High School
the past four years.
Johnson said, "Being a native Nevadan, I am aware of and have great appreciation for the football
tradition at Wooster. I am honored and excited to represent Wooster now as the head football
coach and hope to do so in a way that will honor the school and all who have an interest in
Wooster football. I am very appreciative to Principal Biersdorff and her team for this opportunity."
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Johnson as the new head football coach at Wooster,"
said Wooster Assistant Principal Kevin Carroll. "With his experience, football expertise and overall
character, Coach Johnson will take our program in a positive direction in the years to come. It is
apparent that Coach Johnson's priorities will be to build a sound football program and provide
strong leadership to all of his student athletes." The Colts' athletic director, Michael Anderson, said the school was committed to finding the most
highly qualified and experienced football coach possible. "Wooster is entering a very important
period in the football program's history and we felt it was vital to find someone who was forward
thinking, creative and willing to put in the time necessary to build a competitive program. The
Wooster community firmly believes that we have the potential to field competitive teams and that it
is going to take a very special coach with a vision and a goal. We believe Coach Johnson has that
vision and goal needed to lead our football program for many years to come."
