WCSD Looks to Collaborate with Community Groups at Nonprofit Summit

Reno, NV (March 22, 2011) - In an effort to build stronger partnerships and encourage collaboration among community groups, the Washoe County School District, the Education Alliance of Washoe County and Ready for Life are hosting a summit to bring together nonprofit groups and discuss how to best leverage resources available for WCSD children. The summit, called Strategic Partnerships in Tough Economic Times, will be held on Wednesday, March 23.

The focus of the summit will be on strengthening partnerships between the District and community nonprofits, establishing two-way partnerships and advancing the District's strategic plan. Key local nonprofits involved in assisting WCSD students will participate in the event. The goals of the summit include increasing knowledge of the District's strategic plan, Envision WCSD 2015 - Investing in Our Future; linking key resources to performance goals of the strategic plan; linking key providers of resources to potential consumers; and working toward a seamless delivery system of services that will benefit the children of Washoe County. Julia Ratti, CEO of the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada, will facilitate the event.

Organizations that will be participating include: The Children's Cabinet, VSA Arts of Nevada, Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada, Director Team Up & 21st Century CLC, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Truckee Meadows Tomorrow, Quest Counseling, Solace Tree, NV PEP, Family Ties, Nevada Partnership for Inclusive Education, Shelter VOA, United Way, Nevada Youth Empowerment Project, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Journeys, Save the Children, UNR Cooperative Extension, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, Crisis Call Center, Great Basin Outdoor School, Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada and Nevada Volunteers.

Representatives attending the event will hear a presentation on Envision WCSD 2015 - Investing in Our Future. They also will work in small groups to identify any challenges they are facing and will discuss ideas on collaborative efforts to overcome these challenges. The groups will finish up by determining how the nonprofits can work with WCSD and specific ideas to achieve common goals.
