Summer Class Offers Students an Opportunity in Entrepreneurship
Reno, NV (May 17, 2011) - Washoe County School District students interested in learning about entrepreneurship and the global market have the opportunity this summer to explore their interests in a college setting.
The University of Nevada, Reno's College of Business Imagine 2020 Initiative offers students one college credit for a three-week class that introduces them to business professors and successful entrepreneurs in the community. The class, called Business Ideas in Local Communities and Global Markets, runs from June 13 to 30. It targets Hispanic WCSD and charter high school youth, but other students are invited to apply as well.
"The Imagine 2020 Initiative is a great opportunity to build on the talents of our diverse students and help our students recognize themselves as the leaders we already know they are," said Fatima Rivas, WCSD coordinator for Diversity and Equity.
Classes will be held at UNR's College of Business. The credit students receive for completing the course is transferable to any community college or university in Nevada as an elective credit.
To take the course, students must have a 2.5 grade point average. There is no application fee. Tuition is paid for by the Hart Foundation and transportation also is covered in paid parking or bus passes if students are in need.
Students and families interested in the course can attend an information session on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, located at 2680 E. Ninth St. in Reno. Students need to bring the application, a copy of their high school transcripts and immunization records to the information session. The complete application, including transcripts and immunization records, must be submitted by May 27 to Robyn Davis in UNR's College of Business.
Students also are required to attend an orientation session on Wednesday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at UNR's Ansari Business Building, room 106.
