District Holds Parent Meetings to Discuss GT Enhancements
What: The Washoe County School District's Gifted and Talented Education program will be providing a series of informational sessions for families of gifted and talented students in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades. The four informational sessions for parents will provide an overview of the new GT magnet middle school program and curriculum. Parents will have an opportunity to ask questions about the program.
When: There will be four sessions, which will take place May 31, June 1, June 6 and June 7 at 6:30 p.m.
Where:
- May 31: Mendive Middle School, 1900 Whitewood Dr., Sparks
- June 1: Clayton Middle School, 1295 Wyoming Ave., Reno
- June 6: Swope Middle School, 901 Keele Dr., Reno
- June 7: Pine Middle School, 4800 Neil Road, Reno
Why: The WCSD last week announced enhancements to the current middle school gifted program. Instituting a magnet program at the middle school level will provide gifted students a more successful transition from elementary to middle school, give them an accelerated math curriculum and ensure services are equitable at all middle schools with GT courses in all core subjects.
