Hug High School Welcomes New Principal
Reno, NV (June 21, 2011) - When classes commence in the fall for the 2011-2012 school year, students at Hug High School will be welcomed by a new principal. Lauren Ford, who is the Washoe County School District 2011 Middle School Principal of the Year, has been named the new principal at Hug.
The Hug community is invited to meet Ford Tuesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the Hug High School little theater where Ford will be formally introduced as the new principal. The meeting is for staff, students and parents to get an opportunity to meet and talk with Ford.
Ford, who spent the last several years as principal at Traner Middle School, says she is looking forward to working with students and staff at Hug. "It is not often that a principal is afforded the opportunity to see their students from sixth through twelfth grade. I look forward to being a part of and building upon the successes that Hug High School has accomplished. For me this is a very natural progression to follow former Traner Middle School students to Hug High School and I look forward to being a continued presence in the community."
Area Superintendent Doug Parry said Ford will be an outstanding addition to the Hug community. "She will provide strong leadership in taking the school to the next level of academic excellence. She is no stranger to these students, since she has served as the principal of Traner Middle School for the past five years.
Ford was assistant principal of Traner before being named principal there in 2006. Prior to moving to Reno, she was a school administrator and teacher in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. She received her Master's in Education in Administration and Supervision from Roosevelt University in Chicago and is pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the University of Nevada, Reno.
"Lauren has a true passion for students, staff members and parents. She also understands how important it is that all students receive an outstanding education." Parry said. "She holds herself, her students and staff to very high expectations, which is reflected in the great turnaround work she has done the past five years in improving the educational program at Traner."
Ford will be replacing Andy Kelly at Hug High School, who will be moving to Washington to pursue opportunities with an education nonprofit organization.
