U.S. Army Cadet Command Recognizes Incline JROTC Leader
Reno, NV (October 20, 2011) - The U.S. Army Cadet Command is recognizing one the leaders of the Washoe County School District's Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program with an award that honors the nation's top instructors. Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Del Lepley, a JROTC instructor from Incline High School, is the recipient of the Gold Instructor Award, which is an annual award that recognizes excellence in leadership among JROTC instructors.
According to LTC Norbert Czech, the District's Director of JROTC programs, only the top ten percent of all instructors are awarded this recognition. LTC Czech said, "Del is a can-do person who is the ultimate team player and is certainly one of the best when it comes to working with young people."
CSM Lepley holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in counseling. He is certified by the Nevada Department of Education with a business and industry license. Before moving to Incline High School, Lepley was a JROTC instructor at Wooster and Spanish Springs and also served as a District JROTC supervisor.
Prior to being recommended for the award, Lepley had to fulfill requirements for bronze, silver, and gold level accomplishments based on teaching experiences. These accomplishments are numerous and involved working with WCSD students, training District JROTC instructors and helping students interact with the community to provide for families in need.
CSM Lepley plans numerous JROTC events throughout the school year at Incline High School and throughout WCSD. He was instrumental in planning the District's JROTC participation in the Veterans Day Parade in Reno where 1,600 JROTC cadets marched honoring military veterans. He also planned the most successful District all-service JROTC military ball this year with more than 2,000 participating cadets and guests.
In addition to his community work, CSM Lepley is the liaison to Nevada's congressional staff offices and interacts with principals, District leaders and teachers. Incline High School Assistant Principal Mark Zimmerman said, "His contributions to our school and community are top notch when working with civic organizations and supporting our JROTC students. We are proud to have CMS Lepley on staff at Incline High School."
