AB 46 Gets Approval in Nevada Senate Bill Heads to the Governor for Consideration
Reno, NV (June 3, 2013) - On the final day of the 2013 legislative session, the Nevada Senate passed Assembly Bill 46, the Washoe County School District's bill that seeks to provide sustainable funding for critical school capital projects. The Senate voted 16-4 in support of the proposal.
The bill now goes to Governor Brian Sandoval for his consideration. With the signature of the governor, the proposal would head to the Washoe County Commission, where it would need a two-thirds majority to enact the legislation to provide additional revenue sources for school maintenance and repairs.
Following the vote in the Senate, Superintendent Pedro Martinez and President of the Board of Trustees Barbara Clark issued the following statement:
"With the bipartisan support of Washoe Senators Debbie Smith, Ben Kieckhefer, and Greg Brower, we are pleased to see the Senate approve this piece of legislation. The revenue sources discussed in AB 46 are important to ensure that we have the resources available to continue to maintain the assets our community has invested in and to provide a safe and effective learning environment for our 63,000 children. We thank the members of the Senate for acknowledging the critical nature of this issue and voting to support this bill. We also greatly appreciate the high level of support we continue to receive from the numerous business, parent, and education organizations. We are looking forward to Governor Sandoval signing this bill into law."
