Community Invited to Call With Questions About AB 46
WCSD Creates Call Center to Provide Information
About School Capital Needs Initiative
Reno, NV (Oct. 4, 2013) - Members of the Washoe County School District (WCSD) staff have created a call center to continue providing information to the community about the school capital needs initiative-also known as AB 46. The center will be staffed on Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. District staff with extensive knowledge of finance and capital projects will man the phone lines and be available to provide information to callers.
The AB 46 Call Center can be reached at (775) 789-3401. There will also be an online chat held during the same times. The address for the online chat is
"We are committed to open, honest, and transparent communications with our community," said Superintendent Pedro Martinez. "We have worked hard to provide accurate information about our District's capital needs, and this is a wonderful opportunity to talk one-on-one with members of our community who still have questions. I hope they will take a few minutes to call, talk with our staff members, and get the answers and information they need."
WCSD is the only school district in Nevada without a sustainable source of funding for capital projects, leaving the District with no stable funding to pay for critical repairs and maintenance for roofs, floors, plumbing, electrical systems, and concrete. AB 46 would provide a percent increase in the sales tax and five cents per $100 of assessed value on property tax. It would raise an estimated $20 million per year.
The Washoe County Commission is considering the measure and will continue to discuss AB 46 with WCSD staff on Tuesday, Oct. 15 during a public workshop. The meeting begins at 4 p.m. and will be held at the commission chambers at 1001 E. Ninth St., Building A, in Reno.
