
Freshman Seminar2010 - 2011 Course SyllabusWelcome to Freshman Seminar! In this one-credit course, you will learn strategies that will help you be successful during your high school career, including content-specific skills, study skills, and how to develop positive academic habits. Freshman Seminar Goals: Student Expectations: (citizenship grade will be determined by these expectations)

Grading: Note: Grading will be based on the Damonte Ranch High School grading scale. Students scoring less than 60% will not receive credit for this one-credit course. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Planner (20%) Students will be expected to fill out their planners on a daily basis for every class. Planners will be checked daily in Freshman Seminar and will be graded using the rubric below. Planners must be brought to class every day. Unit Packets (15%) Students will be given a variety of class work assignments, including worksheets, reading, and content-specific activities. Students are expected to produce high-quality work on these activities. On some days, students will be given time to work on other academic activities. Some examples of other academic activities include doing homework, working on projects, studying for exams, or silent reading. Productive Use of Class Time Tally Sheet (20%) On some days, students will be given time to work on other academic activities. Some examples of other academic activities include doing homework, working on projects, studying for exams, or silent reading. Students will fill out a daily Time Tally Sheet assessing their productivity. Extra-Curricular Activities at Damonte Ranch HS (5%) Students are expected to participate in at least five extra-curricular school-related activities per semester. Some examples are in the list below.
Final Exam (10%)In lieu of a traditional final exam, students will be required to participate in a course evaluation at the end of the semester.
