INTRODUCTION TO MEDIA ARTS (Media I)

Intro to Media is a survey course that covers basic Media. Areas of study include Media Literacy and the study of electronic and print communications such as  newspapers, magazines, television, film, radio, the internet, and advertising/marketing. While touching on the implementation of each of the above media, the course has a primary focus on Television Broadcast News and Editing, Video Production, and Computer Generated Graphic Art (Photoshop). Successful completion of Intro to Media qualifies students to enroll in the Intermediate and Advanced versions of the program and can lead to participation in the school’s Broadcast Television Station, Mustang Media Television Channel 28.
Note: This course fulfills .50 per semester of the Humanities graduation requirement if taken for a semester and passed.

 

INTERMEDIATE MEDIA PRODUCTION (Media II)

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of Introduction to Media Arts, Teacher approval

This course will focus primarily on Broadcast Journalism. Students of Media Production classes make up the Mustang Media School News crew. Students will advance their skills in news writing, graphic design, and videography and will be introduced to studies in animation, documentary, and film making.

ADVANCED MEDIA: BROADCAST JOURNALISM (Media III)

This is a continuation of Media Production with an emphasis on Broadcast Journalism. Advanced students will have the opportunity to fill leadership positions within the Media program and Mustang Media project. In addition to having editorial responsibilities, students will also be expected to design and create their own media term project in collaboration with the instructor. Advanced students may also be involved with collaborative projects in the community and local media outlets, including possible internships with local television news stations.

Photography


INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY (Photo I)

This is an introductory Art class that focuses on the study of the history of photography, theory, and technique. It includes darkroom lab activities with traditional black and white film. Students will be introduced to concepts in traditional film photography and graphic arts.
*Requirements: Students are encouraged, but not required, to provide their own Manual operation, 35mm film camera.

INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY (Photo II)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Photo I, Teacher approval

This course is designed for the student interested in expanding their Photographic knowledge and abilities. Students of Intermediate Photography will be involved in intensive study of 35mm Black and White Photographic history, theory, and technique, which will include formal research, presentations, and essays. In addition to classroom work, students will complete several Photographic projects each semester that will involve extensive use of the Darkroom.
*Requirements: Students are encouraged, but not required, to provide their own Manual operation, 35mm film camera.

ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY (Photo III)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Photo II, Teacher approval

This course is designed for the serious student of Photography and is primarily aimed at the student interested in a Photographic Career. Students of Advanced Photography will continue their study of Photographic history, theory, and technique. In addition to classroom work and an extension of the 35mm black and white techniques learned in Intermediate Photography, students will be introduced to color film principles, mixed-media art, and digital photography. Advanced students will be required to complete a Photographic Portfolio based on an aspect of photography chosen by both the student and instructor, will complete a major project based on a Master Photographer of their choice, and will be required to arrange for public display of their work.
*Requirements: All Advanced students are required to have their own manual control 35mm Camera and are responsible for purchasing additional supplies as needed beyond the supplies provided by the Lab Fee.
