BEGINNING DANCE

Prerequisite: None
This class is designed for students who have limited experience with dance. The introduction of basic dance technique and choreography will be represented through jazz, ballet, and hip hop. All choreography and material presented will be at the skill and interest level of the students. |
Advanced Dance

Year: 1 credit
Grade: 10-12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of two semesters of beginning dance (this includes MS dance and/ or instructor approval)
This class is designed for the experienced dance student. A more in-depth level of dance technique, stage and performance presentation, and choreography will be presented through jazz, ballet, and hip hop including analyzing the history of dance, entertainment and the performing arts. |
Power Jam

This class is designed to emphasize an in depth study of hip hop. Discussions will include the history of hip hop and its contributions to the performing arts. Combinations in the discipline will be performed throughout the semester focusing on rhythm, musicality and stage presence. All choreography and material presented will be at the skill level and interest of the students. |
To The Max

This class is designed for students interested in learning the fitness skills necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle for a lifetime. This is a fitness class that will work on increasing cardiovascular fitness and working in your target training zone, resistance training techniques using weights and alternatives to weights, yoga for increased flexibility and strength, intake of proper nutrition and fitness program design. Teacher expectations will be high and full participation will be expected of all students, every day. The goal of this class is to teach students how to work out effectively, efficiently, and safely for a lifetime whether they are members at a gym or a student in a college dorm. Fitness comes in all shapes and sizes and can be done anywhere, anytime and by learning those techniques students will be more likely to stay active for a lifetime. |
Power Walking

This class will provide an opportunity for students to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of individual fitness for an active lifestyle through power walking. The goal of this course will be to provide a low impact activity to improve flexibility, strength, and endurance to contribute to the students’ well-being. |
Team Sports

This class will be geared for students who enjoy playing team sports. Students will help determine the focus of the class based on their interests. Some sports may include volleyball, basketball, flag football, floor hockey etc. Students will learn established rules of many different team sports. An important goal of this course will be to demonstrate personal responsibility and positive social interaction as a member of a team. Time will be spent on skill development as students work cooperatively as a member of a team in a variety of competitive games. |
Basketball

This class will provide an opportunity for students to achieve and maintain a heal-enhancing level of fitness for an active lifestyle through the sport of basketball. Time will be spent on skills, drills, games, sportsmanship and positive attitudes related to the sport of basketball. This class is open to any student interested in improving his/her basketball skills and participating in the sport of basketball for an entire semester. |
Health

The state of Nevada guidelines for Health Education states that “To qualify for a standard diploma, evidencing graduation from high school a student must earn half a credit in health.” The course shall include instruction in the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of one’s health. In Washoe County, that requirement can be met through completion of this Health Course of study or completion of the fifth semester of HSROTC course or through completion of Child Development I Course for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade.

Introduction to Sports Medicine
Course # 5531, 5532
Grade: 10-12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of one year High School Science.
Lab Fees: $15.00
This course is designed for individuals who possess an interest in sports medicine, athletic training, or other health occupation fields. Students will cover the fundamentals of sports medicine while learning the basics of athletic training: prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of common sports injuries. Students will also learn the fundamentals of exercise physiology, kinesiology, and biomechanics with musculoskeletal anatomy. These fundamentals will help students acquire the necessary skills used for a lifetime of sports activities. A certified/licensed Athletic Trainer will teach the course. Instruction will be through lecture, handouts, audio-visual materials and HANDS ON PERFOMANCE SKILLS. Student evaluation will be based upon class participation, tests, quizzes, and homework. |
PE Aquatic program offerings
The aquatic program is a district-wide program held after regular school
Hours at a site away from the high school campus (Moana, northwest,
Northwest or Alf Sorenson pools.) Participation in this program is a privilege
And exemplary behavior is expected.
On the first Wednesday of the fall semester an aquatics teacher will meet with
Students at each high school during the lunch period. Class will begin
The first Thursday of the school year. Students who intend to participate in
A fall or winter after-school sport should not enroll in aquatics. Students
Failing to suit out or who are absent more than ten days in a semester will
Be dropped from the program.
Students are required to furnished their own swimsuits, swim caps, goggles,
And towels; locker rooms and showers are available. Students must provide
Their own transportation to and from class every day. Students who wish to
Participate in a water sport and do not need PE credits need not register for
Aquatics classes.
PE AQUATICS- GENERAL SWIMMING
course# 5400
Fall only- .5 credits
This course is designed to teach competitive swimming skills from beginner
To advance swimmer. Physical conditioning is gained though a variety of
Aquatic experiences, which may include learning to swim the four competitive
Strokes, starts, turn, and lap swimming for fitness. Class hours are 3:00
-4:00p.m (times vary slightly from school to school). Please allow for
Transportation time to and from the pool.
Student is graded on attendance, interest, participation, and noted improvement in skills presented.
There is no prerequisite for this class. The class CANNOT be repeated for credit.
Students are required to bring their own swimsuits, goggles, and towels. Locker rooms and showers are available. |
PE Aquatics-swim Training

Fall and Spring- .5 Credit per semester
This course is designed to train the advanced swimmer. Activities include practice sessions, time trails, and swim testing. The spring semester of this course is for swim team participants. Spring workouts are over at 4:00PM. This course may be repeated for credit. Class hours are 3:00 – 4:00PM daily at Moana, northwest, or Alf Sorenson pools; please allow for transportation time and from the pool.
Student is graded on attendance, interest, participation, and improvement.
Prerequisites include general swimming class or knowledge of all four competitive strokes and flip turn, or approval of instructor.
Students are required to bring their own swimsuits, goggles, and towels. Locker rooms and showers are available. |
PE Aquatics-Beginning Springboard Diving

This course is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of spring board diving and required dives featured in high school competition. Class hours are 3.00-4.00PM daily at moana pool; please allow for transportation time and from the pool ONLY beginning divers my enroll in this class. Student is graded on attendance, interest, participation, and noted improvement in skills presented.
In order to enroll in this class, students must be able to swim. There is a school quota of 5 students for this program
Students are required to bring their own swimsuits, goggles, and towels. Locker rooms and showers are available. |
PE Aquatics-advanced springboard diving

Spring only -.5 credits
This course is designed to teach the advanced skill of springboard diving. This course is for students on the diving team. Class hours are 3.00-4.00PM daily at moana pool; please allow for transportation time and from the pool.
Student is graded on attendance, interest, participation, and improvement.
Prerequisites include beginning springboard diving with ability to perform eleven
(11) dive format or approval of instructor.
Students are required to bring their own swimsuits, goggles, and towels. Locker rooms and showers are available. |
