An Interview with Our Principal, Mrs. Hausauer

A couple of our Damonte Ranch students finally caught up with principal Denise Hausauer and sat down for a an interview with the busy administrator. Below are the questions and answers that came out of the interview.

What made you want to become a principal?
The reason why I became a principal is because there is never a boring day.

If you were to grade our school on a scale of 1-10 what would it be and why?
If I were to give our school a grade it would have to be either an 8 or a 9 because we provide so many different opportunities for our students.

What is unique about our school compared to all of the other schools you have worked at?
The difference with our school is that we provide our students opportunities like Instructional Center, and Damonte dialogue. It is a 9-12 grade school, every day after school teachers have collaborative time from 2:05 to 2:45, were they share new ideas to improve our student's learning.

What are you mostly proud of this school year?
The one thing I'm mostly proud of is the plaque we received for High Achievement and only two schools in Washoe County were honored with the award, Incline High School and Damonte Ranch.

What did you teach before you became a principal?
Before I became a principal I was a business and math teacher at Sparks and Reed High School.

What other Job would you do if you weren't a principal and why?
If I wasn't a principal my other job would be a teacher, I love kids especially being around high school kids.

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time I enjoy going to school activities like games and school plays.

When they offered you the job as principal of Damonte did you have any second thoughts about it?
No way, I was very excited about it. I thought of it as a very fun job.

Do you like your job as principal at Damonte?
I LOVE IT!

What makes your job stressful and enjoyable?
The one thing that makes my job stressful is when kids are struggling with their school work. What I enjoy about my job is when I see students become successful and enjoy school.

What goals do you have for yourself this year?
My goals are to improve more as a principal, make sure I communicate with all people I work with and establish a Damonte Ranch High School culture.

What goals do you have for our school this year?
My goals for this school year are to improve our students test scores, customizing our building, and to get students involved around school.

What are your future goals to improve Damonte?
My goals for the future are to make sure every student is able to read and to know they are successful in their classes.
