 One Day a Week Program

 GATE Elementary On-Site/Pull-Out Program

Starting with the 2011-2012 school year, the Gifted and Talented Education program will be available at every elementary school in the District so that students can be served at the school in which they are zoned. Through this on-site model, students will participate in gifted and talented programming once a week at their home school with other GATE students. Some schools will have multi-aged class groupings that include students from 2nd through 6th grades and others  will be have multi-age groups of grades 2/3, 3/4, and 5/6. The grouping will depend on the number of gifted students at each elementary school or whether the school has 6th grade students. (Read more about our new on-site services and grouping models).

Moving to an on-site/pull-out model provides many benefits to GATE students and their families and will allow for more student participation. In addition to the academic advantages of the program, this new model will allow GATE students to participate in after-school extracurricular activities and will allow them to continue to build social connections with peers at the home school. When a program is off-site, it makes it more difficult for students to connect to their home school curriculum and experiences. The new on-site/pull-out model also eliminates transportation issues that were a barrier to participation in the past. The new program model saves $474,000 in transportation costs compared to previous years.
