Magnet Applications were mailed out October 15th!
For the 2014-2015 school year, there will be an informational meeting on Monday, October 28th in the Reno High School Theater starting at 6:30pm for the Gifted and Talented Magnet Programs at the middle school level. This is also an opportunity to learn about all middle school gifted programming options in the district.
The letter and forms can be found here:
Completed Magnet Applications are due by November 15, 2013!

The WCSD Gifted Magnet Middle Schools are an accelerated educational program that allows for gifted students who qualify for acceleration to attend one of four schools providing students the opportunity to learn among their academic peers while experiencing a typical middle school experience of sports teams, clubs, music, and so forth.

The four designated magnet schools are: Clayton Middle School, Mendive Middle School, Pine Middle School and Swope Middle School. Each of these schools is committed to providing 6th through 8th grade gifted services in all four core subjects (math, language arts, social studies, and science). Transportation is not provided to students zoned for other middle schools; parents must provide transportation.

All current 5th and 6th grade GATE students interested in attending must complete an application. Acceleration and placement into the magnet program will be determined through multiple criteria:
2013 CRT Scores: 0 approaches standard, 1 meets standard, 2 exceeds standard (0-4 pts)
2012 CRT Scores: 0 approaches standard, 1 meets standard, 2 exceeds standard (0-4 pts)

For the 2014-2015 school year we will be accepting 27 6th graders per site and 25 to 45 7th graders (depending on the site). Because of the integrated nature of 7th and 8th grade, we will not be accepting 8th grade students. We will be reserving 70% of available seats for students entering from SWAS or students zoned for the Magnet Middle School each qualifying based on the above criteria. Once those spaces fill, we will open remaining spaces to students zoned for other district middle schools and students from out of the district. If your student is interested in applying, please return the enclosed application by November 15th.
