In the beautiful setting of the Sierra Nevada Mountains , half an hour from Lake Tahoe , and only minutes from incredible recreational opportunities is your dream job…. We're looking for enthusiastic teachers and therapists to provide services to special needs students who are enrolled in Washoe County School District (encompassing the Reno , Sparks , Lake Tahoe, Incline Village , Gerlach, Empire, and Wadsworth areas) from early childhood through secondary school.

Continuum of Services

The WCSD serves students eligible for special education services in a variety of programs.  Special Education services are provided at all elementary, middle, and high schools through general resource programs.  In addition some school sites provide services in specialized programs for students who require specialized services or a more restrictive environment.  These specialized programs are as follows:

Comprehensive Life Skills -

provides students with life skills that will enable them to be as independent as possible in school and community environments

Social Intervention -

provides a structure to effectively address the needs of students who have demonstrated significant behavioral regression

Strategies -

emphasizes functional communication and socialization skills, including physical management of the classroom, behavior management procedures, structured teaching techniques and visually mediated teaching strategies

Early Childhood -

serves preschool students in self-contained as well as integrated sites

Hearing Impaired -

WCSD provides direct and/or consultative services.  Students may utilize both aural and total communication.  Students with cochlear implants are supported from initial cochlear implant activation and transitions.

Visually Impaired -

Services may include adaptive techniques for reading and writing, orientation and mobility skills, Braille instruction, and assistive technology training.

Additional Educational Supports

Our District shares a strong professional relationship with the University of Nevada where doctorate degrees are available in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Psychology, Speech and Language, as well as numerous other fields.

In addition to the relationships with the University, WCSD offers on-site support for new teachers from our Program Consultant and the Regional Professional Development Program.  These professionals have an extensive background in classroom management, special education law, and teaching techniques.
