Testimonials (wonderful examples of how Volunteer Services is helping at our schools):

Dear Volunteer Services,

I just want to let you know how much I appreciate Mr. Lewis Thomas, and how much the kids do too...they LOVE him! He is SUCH a great help to us, and I can't believe how blessed I am that you sent him to me last year, and that he came back to work with me this year.

Thank you, thank you and please keep him in your program because he contributes so much to these kids!! Valerie Bebee

Dear Jane,

This is good news concerning the first volunteer that Lisa-Marie sent me. He is working all over at Sierra Vista School. His name is Steve Burns. This is the report he sent to me and others about his volunteering experience:

I am having the best time of life at the Washoe County Schools. I have spent most of my time at an elementary school, installing PCs, setting them up on their network, giving tips and hints to teachers and students, and fixing teachers and staff personal home PCs. The teachers are exceptionally grateful since their budgets have been cut so much. The kids are amazing. I get a large number of unprompted thank yous from them. I have told the principal, vice principal (my boss), and a number of teachers how impressed I am with the kids and the job they are all doing. Several have asked me why I give so much of my time to the public schools. I answer to all of them the truth. I realize I have a huge debt to repay public education for the excellent preparation I received. Had it not been for them, I would not be retired in comfort or have life time company paid medical insurance. I won't live long enough to repay the debt.

On Thursday, I was lucky enough to be invited by the school librarian to give my talk which I've developed over the past 15 years on how transistors work, what the binary system is, and why PCs have to work in binary. It was a great time because the 4th and 5th graders were very interested, attentive, and asked a ton of pertinent questions. I sure am lucky!

Dear Lisa-Marie,

We are very excited about the books! They are wonderful...thank you! We were excited about the quality and the prospect of being able to reward our students with them. The students were very grateful for the books, and the tutors were happy to give the students something that would increase literacy at school and at home. We look forward to the next batch. Thank you again for this special gift!
