Office of State and Federal Programs

Mission Statement

Through constant monitoring of local, state, and federal available resources, the Office of State & Federal Programs’ Mission is to provide District-level, department-level, and school-level oversight, management, and assistance in acquiring supplemental resources to increase student achievement and to support the five goals of Envision WCSD 2015.

Vision and Purpose

To support Envision WCSD 2015, the Office is organized into four Departments (Grants, Child and Family Services, Title I, and Strategies). Each of the four Departments provide services to the District and schools around their core functions. Every Department utilizes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the performance and progress of its goals and strategies.

Grants Department is responsible for the management and oversight of all grants funding in the District. This includes competitive and formula-based, and categorical grants from federal, state, and private sources. The Grants Department oversees fiscal requirements, programming compliance, and evaluation reporting on all grants.

The Child and Family Services Department is responsible for six programs that serve a variety of needs for children and families throughout the Washoe County School District and statewide. The Department consists of three Divisions: Early Childhood Education; Children in Transition; and Family Resource Centers. It is unique because these Divisions each serve and support very different children and family issues. This department supports WCSD’s strategic plan Envision WCSD 2015 through services and support provided to children and families.

The Title I Department is responsible for Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and is the largest federally-funded educational program. This program provides supplemental funds to school districts to support schools with the highest student concentrations of poverty to meet school educational goals. The goal of the Title I Department is to support schools in improving the academic achievement of all children so they will graduate college and career ready.

The Strategies Department includes Innovations Division and the new Washoe K12 Education Foundation. The Innovations Division coordinates, aligns, and expands opportunities to link partners and resources to innovative educational efforts in the Washoe County School District and the newly created non-profit, the Washoe K12 Education Foundation.
