The ABCs of Learning
There are many different factors that affect student learning. I would like to touch on three factors to help students stay focused.
APPETITE. Young children have great appetites and need at least three meals a day to grow and learn. Are you aware of the District’s lunch program that serves breakfast and lunch? Also, there is the Kids Café after school from 3:30 – 4:00 pm, available to all children ages 1- 18 and you do not have to be on the lunch program. Call the Counselor if you have more questions about the lunch program or need more resources.
BACKPACK. We all want our kids and students to be organized, but it is a skill that must be taught and learned. It’s a good routine to check your child’s backpack every night for homework, notes, and help them organize it. If not each night, once a week, maybe a Thursday so that all items that needed to be turned in during the week can be turned in by Friday.
CUDDLING. All children just want some cuddling time to sit and chat about their day, week, or just some quiet time reading or sitting. It teaches our little ones to stop and reflect, and that’
s it good to just sit together in silence. Time goes by fast and five minutes a day, three times a week, or even a few times a week, makes a huge difference.
