The Just One Campaign

Just One Campaign is a unique book drive and reading campaign founded for Echo Loder Elementary School by Mrs Theresa Shirley, our librarian.  The mission of this campaign is to get students reading on a daily basis and to open up opportunities for parents to engage in their student’s reading education.  Just One Campaign has an internal and an external focus.

The external focus of Just One Campaign is to build home libraries of new or gently used book for every student at Echo Loder.  Each home library will have 25 books and will be expanded every year by another 25 books.  Various book drives will occur all year to collect these books.

The internal focus of Just One Campaign asks students to commit to reading.  The students at Echo Loder will be asked to do their “Just One” each night.  To complete “Just One” our students will read 1 book or chapter (or more) for 10 minutes (or more) with a parent or family member.   Parents and family members are encouraged to allow their student to sit and read to them each night.  At the end of each trimester, the most dedicated readers will be recognized at the Echo Loder Student Achievement Assembly.

Beginning in August 2011, Echo Loder will begin having “Read In” opportunities where students and their parents can come to school and learn more about Just One Campaign and ways to support improving literacy.

Interested in helping us with Just One Campaign?  Please contact Mrs. Shirley!  We need parents to read with our students during recess and help process the books that are being donated to our students.
