About Our Schools

Curriculum & Instruction

Special elements in our instructional program include: Federal Title I Program, English As a Second Language, Nursing, Guidance & Counseling, Washoe High School (alternative education), Occupational Education, Special Education, Gifted & Talented, International Baccalaureate, Opportunity School, Truckee Meadows Community College High School and the Academy of Arts, Careers & Technology.

Student Achievement

The State of Nevada requires testing at grades four, eight and 10. The Washoe County School District tests grades three through eight and grade 10.

Students in Nevada must pass the High School Proficiency Examinations in reading, writing and mathematics to receive a high school diploma. Passage rates for the Class of 2009 were 99.4% in reading, 98.8% in writing and 95.1% in math.

Our high school seniors continue to perform better than the state and national averages on the American College Test (ACT) and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).
