FEBRUARY 2009 - We have completed our Part I School Profile (we will add this year's data as it becomes available). Please check out the VIDEO SUMMARY, the 56-PAGE REPORT, and the SURVEY RESULTS above. We have received input from all of our stakeholder groups -- faculty/staff, students, parents, and community members -- on where to focus our research efforts to improve Galena High School (ranking list still posted in link above). All Stakeholder Groups agree that one of the TOP CONCERNS to focus on is: Another common area we will research further is One final key concern our Data demands and Stakeholders agree is important is our The other categories of concerns may be incorporated to the areas noted above. "Self-advocacy" is the 3rd most important to student stakeholders and "communication" issues came up fourth for faculty and parents. The category we titled "Professional Development" was ranked last in need of further research by all four stakeholder groups; nevertheless, it, too, is part of instructional strategies and can be addressed there. After our Part II: Beliefs and Mission Statement are updated, we will begin to look at the top three areas of concern to focus our school improvement plans in the years ahead. First we will review WHY these are concerns, to verify their merit. Second we will research what we are already doing to address these concerns. Third, we will research the categories further, and learn about "best practices" for dealing with each concern. Finally, we will decide where to focus our school improvement efforts. January 2009 - Part I of the Accreditation report is already 56 pages long! It shows months worth of work gathering data about Galena High School from the past five years. It includes School characteristics, Community Demographics, and Student Performance Data. Because we have worked very hard to compile this information and present it in clear, simple language for all our stakeholders, we are very proud of this report! 56 pages of "data" is difficult for anyone to read however. While you are welcome to peruse this near-final draft (we still need to insert numbers from the end of this school year), we have made it easier for you with a 10-minute VIDEO SUMMARY of Part I with narration (turn on the volume). From January 14 thru January 31 we are asking our PARENTS and COMMUNITY MEMBERS to review this Video Summary and then to complete a 20-question survey to help us identify Galena High School's strengths and weaknesses. The purpose of this is to help us choose the right target areas for school improvement for the next five years. After January 31st, the opportunity for completing this Part I Survey is passed; however, we will still be asking for input as we continue through the rest of this 18-month Accreditation process. |
