Scholarship Information is housed in the Galena Library CAREER CENTER "Scholarship" drawer. Pick up applications there (help yourself; top drawer)! All postings are sent to all American Government and Senior English teachers as well as Ms. Campbell (room 116), and Counseling Bulletin Board. CHECK LISTINGS OFTEN FOR UPDATES!! Mrs. Shively, Career Center Facilitator, is available in the library during school if you have questions. JAN 31: CLARE MAHANNAH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Open to seniors who are serious about studying water resources in college. $1000 scholarship. Pick up application and information in Galena Library Scholarship drawer.

Jan. 31: RENO/TAHOE HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS PLAYER COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
Open to seniors who have participated in high school tennis or USTA. Two male and two female tennis applicants will be awarded $750 and $500 (4 total). Mail application by Jan 31.

FEB 1: NEVADA STATE ELKS NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
Open to seniors planning to study nursing at a Nevada school and show proof of acceptance. Must have 2.5 gpa minimum. Must show financial need. Application, two letters of recommendation, two writings, and transcript needed. $1000 scholarship. Pick up in Galena Library. Mail by Feb 1.

FEB 1: “FAST START” from Morrison University
Seniors: take two free college courses at Morrison University, free tuition and use of books, one afternoon a week. CLASSES START FEB 1st. Pick up packet in Galena Library under FAST START or go online to learn more: www.morrison.anthem.edu.

FEB 1: UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI-COLUMBIA BUSINESS COLLEGE
General business scholarships. Open to prospective students from the College of Business. For more information: www.buninessmissouri.edu/scholarships, under “prospective students”> “undergraduate”> “scholarships,” or contact the Coordinator of Undergraduate Scholarship at cookaa@missouri.edu.

FEB 3: STARS DRIVING PROGRAM CONTEST
Student groups of four will win a prize of $10,000 for college. This can be earned by creating a traffic safety message via video, music video, billboard, poster or radio ad. More information can be picked up in the Galena Library. You must register ONLINE right away!

FEB 3: UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON
Open to all seniors planning to attend The University of Dayton in Ohio. $10,000 leadership in service scholarship is available for a student from Galena High School who has been admitted to this school. Let us know you are interested so we can nominate you for this award.

FEB 6: STOSSEL IN THE CLASSROOM ESSAY CONTEST
Students can win an all-expenses-paid trip to NYC and see a live taping of Stossel’s news show. Write an essay of 500-1000 words on assigned topic about politicians making promises. Cash prizes totaling $23,000 will be awarded. For complete rules go to: http://stosselintheclassroom.org/essaycontest.php

FEB 8: KFC COLONEL'S SCHOLARS
Open to seniors who have at least a 2.75 GPA and plan to enroll in a NEVADA public university. Four year awards totaling $20,000 will be given. Apply online at www.kfcscholars.org

FEB 15: NEVADA STATE ELKS ASSOCIATION VOCATIONAL / TECHNICAL SCHOOL GRANT PROGRAM
Open to seniors planning to go to trade school or two-year school. Based on motivation, financial need, skills or aptitude for chosen field. Pick up application in Galena Library and turn in to local ELKS Lodge by Feb 15. Learn more at www.nsea.org.

FEB 15: BEST BUY SCHOLARSHIPS
Open to ALL students who have solid grades and are involved in volunteer community service or work experience. 1200 scholarships of $1000 will be given this year. Go online to register and apply at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com by deadline.

FEB 15 - NATIONAL CO-OP SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Open to seniors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who plan to attend one of the approved schools: Drexel, Rochester IT, Wentworth IT, Johnson & Wales, Kettering, U of Cincinnati, U or Toledo. Go online to learn more about Co-OP scholarships: www.co-op.edu and to apply.

FEB 17: GALENA GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Open to graduating Galena seniors planning to continue education in the fall. Application is above this list in RED. A letter of recommendation from an adult outside of Galena is needed, so request this early. Also application includes resume grid and essay. Submit materials to Galena Library by 3:00 no later than Friday, February 17th. Late applications cannot be considered.

FEB 17: GE-REAGAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Open to seniors who can demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and good citizenship. Winner will receive $10,000 renewable scholarships (up to $40,000 per student). Check it out at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships.

FEB 21: MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL
Open to seniors planning to attend the UNR next fall who have at least a 2.5 gpa. Winner will receive a $500 TEXTBOOK scholarship. Write an essay 300-500 words on what culture means to you and how it affects your life. Go to the library under “Multicultural” for complete details

FEB 28: NORTHERN NEVADA YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP
Open to seniors who have significant financial need, do NOT qualify for Millennium Scholarship, but have drive, potential, and are likely to succeed. Go online to learn more and apply: http://www.nevadafund.org before deadline.

MAR 1: FRANK M. & GERTUDE R. DOYLE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Open to all graduating seniors. Scholarship can range from $500 to $30000. You may learn about this foundation's scholarship at www.frankmdoyle.org. Multiple scholarships awarded to Galena students each year. THIS IS A SCHOLARSHIP WORTH APPLYING FOR!!!

MAR 1: WESTERN NEVADA CATTELWOMAN SCHOLARSHIP.
Open to all graduating seniors with a 3.5 gpa or higher, with intentions of pursuing a degree related to agriculture. $500 and $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Pick up application in Galena Library and mail it to CAL address.

MAR 1 - THE CHARLES DICKENS ORAL INTERPRETATION CONTEST
Open to juniors and seniors. Select from an approved list of Dickens' works and prepare and present a 4-5 minute oral interpretation (send via You Tube or DVD).
You may win $1000 and a week in London! Pick up information in Galena Library.

MAR 1 - SONS OF ITALY SCHOLARSHIPS AND STUDY GRANTS
Open to seniors of Italian heritage. Scholarships range from $500 to $5000. You can find information at www.sonsofitalyca.org.

MAR 9: TZU CHI SCHOLARS
Open to seniors who have a 3.0 minimum gpa and are planning to go to college. Selection based on financial need, academic achievement, and community involvement. $1000 scholarships will be awarded (up to $4000). Access application online at www.us.tzuchi.org or pick up in Galena Library. Mail your application in.

MAR 20: AYN RAND'S ANTHEM ESSAY CONTEST
Open to 9th and 10th grade students. Select one of three essay topics and write an 600-1200 word essay. 236 prizes will be awarded from $30 to $2,000! Go to website and learn more: www.aynrandeducation.com

MAR 22: "WHO HELPED ME GET TO COLLEGE AND HOW" WACAC SCHOLARSHIP
Open to seniors planning to continue education in the fall. Write a 500-word essay about the counselor who helped you prepare for college and how they did it. Pick up information in Galena Library and E-MAIL your application by March 22.

MAR 26: WHAT DRIVES YOU? TEEN DRIVER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Open to ALL students who are either (1) in a Driver's Education Program now or (2) have a Nevada Driver's license already. $1500 will be awarded in each category. Learn more online at www.yourturn2.apply.com. Info available for pick up in Galena Library.

MAR 31: THE AMERICAN LEGION'S BOYS STATE PROGRAM
Attention JUNIOR BOYS: Boys State is a unique summertime educational program for training in practical citizenship, leadership, and a working knowledge of the structure and operation of state government. Find out more and APPLY ONLINE at www.nevadaboysstate.org/apply. 2012 session will be held and University of Nevada, Reno in June.

MAR 31: U.S. BANK INTERNET SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Open to seniors who will attend a two- or four-year college full-time next year. Recipients will be selected by a random drawing process. No essay required. Forty $1,000 awards will be given. (Galena students have won before! Enter online at: usbank.com/scholarship

April 15: Northern Nevada Women’s GOLF Assoc. Scholarships (And Nevada State…)
Open to female, senior golfers. Must have 3.0 gpa, planning to continue education, coach must submit “report.” $2000 or more will be awarded. Pick up applications in Galena Library and mail by April 15.

APR 26: AYN RAND'S FOUNTAINHEAD ESSAY CONTEST
Open to 11th and 12th grade students. Select one of three essay topics and write an 800-1600 word essay. 236 prizes will be awarded from $50 to $10,000! Go to website and learn more: www.aynrandeducation.com

MAY 5: AYN RAND'S WE THE LIVING ESSAY CONTEST

MAY 28: B. DAVIS SCHOLARSHIP
Open to all juniors and seniors. Discuss in less than 1000 words how your education has contributed to who you are today or how it will affect who you will become. $1000 will be awarded. JUN 15 – ABBOTT AND FENNER ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIPS
