| Questions about next year? Here are answers to some
frequently asked questions: • Registration for Returning Students: We will be sending home registration packets on Monday, April 25th to all students who currently attend Roy Gomm. Please fill out and return your registration packet to our main office by Monday, May 9th. • Requesting Class Placements for Next Year: Due to likely budget cuts and the related uncertainty surrounding staffing, I cannot even begin to answer your questions about next year’s placements. We are still uncertain about how many teachers we will be allocated for next year and I cannot predict how many and which teachers will be teaching which grades. Ultimately, those decisions will be made when the budget is finalized. I cannot even guarantee that students will be given the name of their next year’s teacher in June. My hope is still to be able to give you class assignments by June (as we did last year), but I don’t know if it will be possible this year. If we have more information about the budget, allocations and staffing before the end of the year, I will make request forms available to you. That way, during the classroom assignment process, your input will be taken into account—along with teacher input and grade level variables. I will keep you updated with my weekly Connect-ED phone calls, Infinite Campus, school website and Facebook updates. • Registration for Kindergarten: Kindergarten registration begins on Monday, May 2nd, at 8:00 a.m. Next year we will be offering a full-day, tuition-based program and a half-day morning program. If you are interested in the full-day program, we will be holding an informational meeting on Monday, April 25th at 6:00 p.m. in our cafeteria. At that time we will talk about curriculum, the daily schedule, tuition fees, and the application process. • New First Graders Who Currently Attend a Private Kindergarten: If you know of any kindergarteners who are presently enrolled in a private kindergarten but are planning to enroll at Roy Gomm for first grade in the fall, please ask those families to drop by our school office to pick up an enrollment packet. • Variances: As with other major decisions, I will not be able to finalize approval of returning variances for next year until budget, allocations and staffing and is finalized. Variances must be approved every year and are determined on available space. We are always hopeful that we will be able to approve all the returning variances, but I cannot guarantee it. Hopefully, by June I will have a better understanding and will be able to answer your questions. Regardless, if you are currently on a variance to Roy Gomm, please fill out the registration packet along with a variance form, and send it in by Monday, May 9th to let us know that you would like your child to attend here again next year IF a variance is available in that grade. As always, new variances will not be approved until mid-August (right before school starts). Priority for new variances will be given to families that already have other children attending Roy Gomm. |
