Dear Juniper Families,
The beginning of school is an important time to establish routines that will support your child’s academic success. Please make sure your child is reading every night and that all assignments are complete, ready to turn in on time.
The number one skill that will help your child be successful is reading. Children who already know how to read should be reading an hour or more everyday. Those students learning to read should be read to or read simple books as much as possible. If you think about how much time children watch TV these days, asking to substitute one hour a day for reading is not asking much, but will have a tremendous impact on their success in learning. You can designate a certain time everyday, turn off all electronic devices, and have them read. You will be giving them a great gift that will have a lasting affect on the quality of their education.
Parents, please consider the opportunity to become involved at school. Joining our PTA is a wonderful way to support the learning and social growth of all our children. Being a classroom volunteer on a weekly basis, either preparing materials or helping students learn, supports our teachers and has a positive impact on all students.
Finally, attendance is truly an important issue. When a child misses school he or she has difficulty understanding new concepts or skills. Please make sure your child gets a good nights rest, has breakfast, and is ready to learn each day.
For the kids,
Mr. Burt
