Classroom Teachers

 

Kelly Carr, PreSchool

Mrs. Carr attended UNR as an undergraduate student and earned her degree in Early Childhood Education and Human Development and Family Studies. She is currently working on her Master’s degree in Literacy Studies at UNR as a part of the Lemelson VII cohort. In her Pre-K classroom, Mrs. Carr works to create a natural learning environment which is inspired from the Reggio Emilia early childhood philosophy.
     
 

Sandra Mueller, Kindergarten

 Ms. Mueller grew up in Sparks, Nevada. She attended Kate Smith as a child where she has taught for eight years. Ms. Mueller attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She is currently working on her Master’s. Ms. Mueller has dedicated her life to children both personally, with six of her own, and professionally. 

     
 

Ethel Ward , Kindergarten

Mrs. Ward grew up in Michigan and is originally from South Carolina.   She attended Wayne State University and the University of Nevada Reno.   She has her Bachelor's Degree in Education an ESL Endorsement and is currently working on a degree in Spanish.  She has been with the district for seven years (six at Kate Smith Elementary).   She has been married for the past twenty nine years.   Her goals for the future are to finish her Master's Degree and travel as much as possible.

 

     
 

Mary Czerwinsky, First Grade

Mrs. Czerwinwky is originally from San Diego, California. She has lived in Nevada for 27 years and attended the University of Nevada, Reno where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She is now working on her Master's in Literacy Instruction. This is her sixth year teaching 1st grade at Kate Smith. She has been married for 26 years and has eight children and one grandson.

     
 

Patricia Keckler, First Grade

Ms. Keckler was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. She attended the University of Nevada Reno, Sierra Nevada College, and Lesley University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Arts, and her Master's Degree in Education with a Creative Arts emphasis. She has 1 son. This is her sixth year at Kate Smith. She enjoys many outdoor activities, travel, and community events.

 

     
 

Ken Rackley, Second Grade

Mr. Rackley was born in Reno, Nevada. He has been with the district for more than 20 years teaching computers, the last 4 of which have been teaching  at Kate Smith. He received his Bachelors degree, in Elementary/Special Education, from UNR. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife and pets. 

 

     
 

Monae Seymour, Second Grade

Mrs. Seymour has traveled all over the world. She started school in Morocco and finished in California. She graduated from UNR in 1999 and earned her Master’s Degree in 2001. She has worked for WCSD ever since, the last 8 years at Kate Smith ES. She is married to her Soul Mate, Larry. Between them, they have 3 terrific, brilliant, beautiful children. Mrs. Seymour has one natural daughter who is an architect in Pennsylvania. Larry has a boy and a girl, who have blessed them with 4 wonderful grandchildren. Mrs. Seymour's goal in life is to have a happy, healthy family. Her favorite things are giggling children, chocolate, tropiical islands and family. 

     
 

Charisse Puckett, Third Grade

Ms. Puckett has been teaching for 9 years. She began teaching pre-school in 2002 while earning her Bachelor’s degree. She received her Bachelor’s Dual Elementary/Special Education degree from UNR in 2006. This is her 6th year with WCSD and her 4th year at Kate Smith.

 

     

Shelace Shoemaker, Third Grade

Mrs. Shoemaker was born in Winnemucca, Nevada and moved to Reno in 2000 to attend college at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She has been teaching in the district for 8years, in which she taught 1st/2nd combo, 4th and 5th grade! This will be her first year in third grade.  Mrs. Shoemaker is married and has 1 daughter who is 14 and two other “babies,” her dogs Kayloni and Koda. When she isn’t teaching 5th graders, Mrs. Shoemaker teaches spinning at Gold’s Gym and enjoys working out and cycling. She is currently pursuing her Master's at UNR. 

     
 

Megan Conley, Fourth Grade Teacher

Mrs. Conley is going into her ninth year teaching for WCSD at Kate Smith E.S. She has taught second and third grade. This will be her third year teaching fourth grade. In December 2010, she obtained her Master’s in Elementary Math and Science.

     

Barbara Boatman, Fourth/Fifth Grade

Ms. Boatman was born in Wichita Falls, Texas where she attended Midwestern State University and received her Bachelor's Degree. She later received her Master's Degree in Education. Ms. Boatman has worked in the school district for 10 years, all of which have been at Kate Smith. Her future goals include improving her teaching skills and pedagogy.

 

 
     
     
     

Channon Toles, Fifth Grade

Mrs. Toles was born in Buffalo, WY. She is going into her 9th year of teaching and this will be her 4th year of teaching at Kate Smith. After 8 years in 6th grade, Mrs. Toles has transferred to 5th.  Last December, Mrs. Toles completed her Master's Degree through UNR with an emphasis of math and science. She is a very busy person having to take care of her husband and two sons (12 and 5), while going to school. Mrs. Toles enjoys her busy life...most of the time.

 

 
     
 

Karen Wincentsen, Sixth Grade

Ms. Karen Wincentsen has been with the school district for 13 years. This is her fourth year at Kate Smith. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Montana and her graduate degree from Sierra Nevada College. She has one son. In her free time, she enjoys reading and crocheting.
