Supervision of the playground begins at 8:55 am. Please do not send your child to school any earlier as there will be no adult supervision on the playground. We do offer the Sierra Kids Program in the morning as well as after school for your convenience. When students are dismissed at 3:15 pm, they need to leave the school campus immediately and check in at home to ensure all children return home safely and on time. Students are not to linger on the playground after school.
Promptness to class is extremely important; please note that school BEGINS AT 9:10 AM and students are seated for instruction by 9:15 AM. Students who arrive late to school must report to the office. Instructional schedule is very rigorous, therefore, the classrooms will not be interrupted, unless for an extreme emergency, once school begins. Please send a note with your child if he/she is being picked up early from school.
Your child is expected to be in school every day. Absences for reasons other than illness or medical appointments must be pre-arranged through the principal. There is a form to fill out in the office. If your child is not going to be at school, please notify the office. Here are the steps to follow if your child is going to be absent.
All visitors must report to the office and show a picture ID to help protect our children from unauthorized people entering the school. Parents are encouraged to be involved at Lemmon Valley School. Contact either your child’s teacher or the office if you would like to volunteer. A school Volunteer Registration Form must be completed and approved by the District two weeks before you begin working in the school. When volunteering at the school, be sure to check in the office and receive a school name tag each time you are volunteering.
The Board of Trustees of WCSD and the faculty of Lemmon Valley Elementary School believe that homework is an important part of a student’s development. It reinforces classroom work, develops good work habits, and teaches responsibility, an important tool to future success in both school and adult life. Therefore, we have developed general guidelines to give students and parents an idea of what is expected in this area. It must be emphasized that this is only a general guideline and not a specific standard.
The following is a general grade level guideline for you to follow when working with your child doing homework.

When student’s accounts fall below $10 a “low balance” slip will be sent home with students. If a student has no money on his/her account, the student will receive a sandwich. If students are sent with cash for meals, please place it in an envelope with the student’s name on the outside. Students may bring a sack lunch and may purchase milk for $.75.

The WCSD schedules one Parent/Teacher Conference week each year. Students will be dismissed at 1:05 pm all week to provide teachers time to meet with each parent. Please make every attempt to attend to continue to build the teamwork foundation between school and families. The use of the telephone by students will be restricted to emergency calls. School phones are not to be used to schedule after school activities such as asking permission to go to a friend’s house without prior arrangements the day before. WCSD promotes the thoughtful and responsible use of personal electronic devices including cell phones. However, cell phones are not to interfere in the educational process. Teachers and administrators may confiscate any personal electronic device if it is interfering with the learning process. The first time it is taken away, it will be returned to the student at the end of the school day. Parents or guardians will need to come to the school to collect their child’s personal electronic device any additional times the device is confiscated. Students are responsible for safekeeping of the their own personal electronic devices; school personnel are not responsible for lost or stolen items.
In order to provide better communication between home and school, your student will bring home a folder every Thursday. It will have important information regarding school activities, fundraisers, graded papers, etc. Please ask to see their folders and that you sign it and return it back to school on a weekly basis.
Any student riding a scooter or bicycle to school must supply a lock and park in the designated bike rack area. The school is not responsible for any loss, damage, or theft. Scooters, bicycles, roller blades, and skateboards are NOT to be ridden on school grounds. Once on campus, students must walk their bikes and scooters and roller blades and such must be changed to appropriate footwear prior to arriving at school.
The library is open 9:15-3:15. Students may check out books, magazines, audio books and videos. All materials are checked out for one week, and are considered overdue if not returned on time. No charges are applied on over due items, however, after four weeks the item is considered lost and a replacement charge plus processing fee will be applied. Students may not check out materials if the have any overdue materials or outstanding fines.
Library Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Lemmon Valley Elementary School Library to support the school staff and students in solving information problems, satisfying curiosity, and pursuing academic rigor in order to align with the Lemmon Valley Elementary School mission: Everyone Succeeds. No Exceptions. No Excuses. It accomplishes this mission by striving to excel in the following areas:
Should your child become ill or hurt at school, we have a clinical aide who will attend to the child’s immediate needs. If the child is deemed too ill or hurt to return to class, we will contact you to take him/her home. If your child needs to take any form of medication at school, a signed note from the parent along with a consent/request form signed by the physician must be presented in the office. Medication will be kept and dispensed through the clinic. All children will be going outside each day for recess unless it is raining or snowing. There is not a place to appropriately monitor students who are too ill to be outside.
Report cards are issued on a quarterly basis. They are designed to give you a written document on the educational progress of your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the teacher and request a conference.
