Let me introduce myself!  I am Kathleen Johnson, Mount Rose Elementary School's Counselor.  I was born and raised here in Reno Nevada and enjoy living in Northern Nevada.  Mount Rose Elementary School has a rich history established in early 1911 serving thousands of students for 95 years.  I am excited to meet all of Mount Rose's students and to provide them with a comprehensive guidance and counseling program. 

My responsibility as your School Counselor is to help students develop academically, personally, socially and vocationally.  I do this by providing classroom guidance lessons, small group and individual counseling sessions teaching students social skills.  Some of the social skills students learn are: to understand social situations, make and keep friends, communication, problem solve, conflict resolution and learning how to succeed in the school environment. 

Other ways I can help our students is to meet with their families and to provide knowledge about the available community resources.  Some of the community resources I work with are Washoe County Family Resource Center, Operation School Bell, Children's Cabinet, Nevada Check Up, The HAWC Clinic, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Good Shepherd's Clothes Closet and Nevada Prevention Resource Center.  This list is just a sample of the community resources available for families.
