Special Education at Mount Rose
My name is Kaci
Fleetwood. I am the Resource Teacher at Mount Rose Elementary School. I
graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with Bachelor's Degrees in
Elementary Education and in Special Education. I am currently working on
my Master's Degree in Literacy Education, and also obtaining additional
endorsements in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and literacy
coaching. As the resource teacher, I provide special education services
to eligible students in Kindergarten through sixth grade.
What is
Resource?
Resource is one
of the many special education models Washoe County School District
provides. Resource programs are the most common type of programs. Support
is provided at the student's zoned school by a site-based team including
classroom teachers, special education teachers, administrators, and
related service personnel. Not all children who receive special education
services are placed in a resource program. Placement and services are
determined by the needs of each individual student.
How does a
student qualify for Special Education?
A
multidisciplinary team may discuss, monitor, and track student progress
before concluding that a child qualifies for and requires special
education services. Students who are academically below grade level and
require specially designed instruction may be eligible for special
education.
