Ring-of-Honor

Rationale:
In thirty-three years of existence, Edward C. Reed High School has produced numerous student/athletes who have excelled in athletics and have gone on to become valuable members of the communities in which they live. Not only athletes, but many civic-minded individuals have contributed their talents, time, and financial resources in support of Reed High althletics.

With so many individuals populating Reed High School athletic history, it is appropriate to establish a tradition of recognition to honor those most successful student/athlete alumni who may serve as positive role models for current students and for those to follow in the years to come.

Selection Process:
Selection committee: athletic administrator, athletic director, booster club representative, Reed student/athlete alumnus living in the area, two current coaches of female programs and two current coaches of male programs at Reed High School, and the current principal of Reed High School. Note: The principal would be involved in all committee processes, but would only vote in the case of a tie.

Elibility Criteria:
All former Reed High student/athletes, coaches, faculty and members of the RHS athletic community would be eligible for consideration.

Student/Athlete Criteria Include:

  • Continued athletic excellence at the collegiate, national, international, amateur, or professional levels.
  • Clearly having demonstrated sportmanship, citizenship, integrity before and after graduation. A valued member of the community.
  • Academic and post-college career accomplishments.

Criteria for coaches, administrators, faculty, and RHS athletic cummunity members includes:

Nominations must be returned to the athletic department before May 1st in order to be considered for the following school year.

Nomination Form:
Form will ask for contact information on the nominator and the nominee, which would include an explanation of why the nominee is deserving of induction. For student/athletes, the form will also ask for varsity sports played at Reed High School, year of graduation, all athletic academic awards, other high school activities, post-high school athletic, academic, career accomplishments, current occupation and place of employment.

For nominations in the coach/administrator/community member category, the form will ask for information on al the positions held within the Reed High School Athletic Department, all accomplishments related to Reed High School athletics, and community and employment history.

Follow-up questionnaires and research may be indicated in some cases.

Induction Process:
Once a candidate is nominated, as long as the nominee is deemed worthy of consideration, the nomination will remain on file and be considered each year.

Induction Honors:
At halftime of an appropriate varsity basketball game, the inductees of a given year are honored with a brief overview of their achievements read over the PA system and a plaque is presented to them by the person who nominated them. This is given, along with a life team pass to all Reed High School sponsored athletic events held at Reed High School.

Ring-of-Honor
In addition to the above-mentioned awards, inductees' names will be placed along the dark blue wooden border which encircles the large gym walls, about thirty-five feet high. Hence, the "Ring-of-Honor."

Note: This would be the equivalent to the Hall-of-Fame at most schools. However, we already have a "Wall-of-Fame" at Reed High School which has a different set of criteria than this recognition."
