Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Reed High School to provide educational opportunities that encourage each student to develop personal responsibility and to empower them to be responsible, respectful and successful.

School Facts:
Reed High School is a four-year public high school in the Washoe County School District. Our
district serves approximately 63,000 students in 95 schools, grades K-12. The student population of Reed
is appoximately 2,200 students, making us the largest of the comprehensive high schools in the district.
Reed High school had been accredited continuously by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.
Our students and staff proudly support our school wide theme: "Raider 3 - Responsible, Respectful, Successful."
Faculty and Staff:
Reed High School faculty includes 130 certified staff members. Reed teachers have been awarded the
prestigious Greater Reno Chambers of Commerce Teacher of the Month award, the National Presidential
award, as well as National Board Certification. Reed High School has seven counselors, one carreer center
coordinatior, one part-time nurse, one full-time clinical aide, two librarians, one athletic director,
three NJROTC instructors, one freshman dean and one dean of students, four vice-principals, one principal,
and a support of staff of approximately 50 people.
Community Facts:
The city of Sparks was chartered in 1906, and for many years was considered a bedroom community
for Reno. Most recently, Sparks has expanded its work force by bringing in small tech firms
and expanding its warehousing industry. During the past twenty years, the city of Sparks has
experienced tremendous growth. In 1970 our population was 28,702; in 1980 in was 53,230. By 1998 it was up to 61,560.
School Schedule:
The school year is 180 days in length, comprised of two semesters, eighteen weeks each, or four nine week
quarters. Reed High School observes a BLOCK SCHEDULE. Students have a six-class total, but meet with only
four classes per day, on a rotating schedule. Each block period is 73 minutes in length, with three 7 minute
passing breaks and a 42 minute lunch. For certain special programs, students may choose a zero or a seventh
period that meets every day for 55 minutes. With the exception of teacher aide and certain special programs,
all classes completed earn one-half (.5) credit per semester. Enrichment is from 9:20am-9:55am four days a
week, and students recieve one-quarter (.25) credit.
Accreditation:
Reed High School is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. Our school
was accedited during the 2008-2009 school year. Our next NASS accrediation will be 2014-2015.
