I have had the honor of working for the Washoe County School District for the past 20 years as both a high school teacher and school site administrator. I began my teaching career at McQueen High School before accepting a position teaching Social Studies at Opportunity High School. After five years at Opportunity School, I accepted an administrative position at the newly-opened North Valleys High School where I spent 6 years as a dean and assistant principal with responsibilities for curriculum, student assessment, student attendance and management. I proudly served as the principal of Earl Wooster High School for four years before becoming an Area Superintendent. I am proud of my service to the families of the Washoe County School District. I passionately believe in our community’s vision of graduating all students on time and ready for college and career opportunities. I look forward to working collaboratively with the students, parents, teachers, and support staff of the Acceleration Zone!

It has been my pleasure to work for the Washoe County School District for the last 23 years. I started as a 6th grade classroom teacher at Hidden Valley Elementary. After ten years in the classroom at 5 different grade levels, I was hired as the assistant principal at Libby Booth Elementary. In 2001, I became the principal at Alice Maxwell Elementary School in Sparks, Nevada, which was recognized by the WCSD as a Distinguished Title I school in the fall of 2007. My next assignment was as the principal of Kate Smith ES, a school designated as ”In Needs of Improvement.” After working collaboratively with staff, students and parents, Kate Smith was recognized by the State of Nevada as a Title I Distinguished School and a Title I Reward School in 2012.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, Chico, my Teaching Certificate from Chapman University and my Master of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix.

I believe all students can learn and I look forward to working closely with all my schools and administrators to provide the best education for students in Area 1.

It is an honor for me to serve as the Area 2 Superintendent. I am an educator with over twenty years of experience in the Clark County School District, Las Vegas, Nevada, where I held the position of teacher, dean of students, assistant principal, Director of Human Resources, middle school and high school principal. In each of these positions, I have had the opportunity to develop and implement my philosophy of administrative and educational leadership, which is based on doing what is best for students through shared decision-making, collaboration, high expectations, and the development of human talent.

Over the past two decades, I have dedicated my career to improving educational opportunities for all students, but especially for minority students and English language learners. Most recently I served as principal of Von Tobel Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada where I led restructuring efforts responsible for significant academic improvements and growth on various measures.

In addition to my work in K-12 education, I am an adjunct instructor for the Urban Studies Department of Southern Utah University, and an author and consultant for the International Center for Leadership in Education. I look forward to supporting Area 2 schools to ensure success for all students.

An Arizona native, I’ve spent the past 24 years working in public education as a special education teacher, general education teacher, school principal, district level administrator, and project director of a national technical assistance center. In my role as an educational leader, I introduced and implemented multiple initiatives related to curriculum development, professional learning, and systemic change. I received my doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Development from Arizona State University with a focus on leading diverse school communities.

Prior to accepting the role of Area Superintendent for Zone 4, I worked as the director of the Equity Alliance at Arizona State University. In this role, I consulted with school districts in Arizona, California, and Nevada in areas related to educational equity and civil rights. It was in this role that I began my work collaborating with the Washoe County School District to support the district’s focus on culturally responsive teaching, learning, and leadership.

In addition to my work in K-12 education, I’ve also taught graduate and undergraduate courses in bilingual and multicultural special education at Arizona State University, and I currently serve on the advisory board for the federally supported Regional Resource Center Program. I’ve been married to my husband Joe for 25 years, and we have 3 daughters ages 18, 22, and 23. As the Area Superintendent in Zone 4, I am honored to support the school and district communities as we work collaboratively toward the vision outlined in our district’s strategic plan: “Every child, by name and face, to graduation.”

It is an honor to serve as the Area Superintendent for Zone 4 in the Washoe County School District. My career in education began 18 years ago as a fourth grade teacher at Elmcrest Elementary School. While serving as a teacher for seven years, I developed a desire to influence change and improve student learning outcomes at a higher level. This desire resulted in me pursuing administrative positions. My first administrative role was in 2002, at Desert Heights, as the Dean of Students and Math Coordinator. In 2003, I became the principal of Lemmon Valley Elementary where I served for five years. Then, in 2008 I transferred to Van Gorder Elementary as the principal. In 2011, I was selected as the Performance Director for Zone 3. I am committed to working with the parents, and employees in Zone 4 to assure that every student graduates high school ready for college or a highly skilled career.

I am very pleased to serve as the Area 5 Superintendent for the Sparks and Damonte Ranch School Zones. Early in my educational career, I made a commitment to support and enhance the lives of all children. Prior to my career in Washoe County, while attending Arizona State University, I coached and coordinated a variety of youth sports programs and activities for children of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Through this experience I developed my passion for “building” children.

Twenty five years later I am even more committed to this cause. I have worked in the Washoe County School District for 18 years as a teacher at Katherine Dunn Elementary School, dean of students at Anderson Elementary School, assistant principal and principal at Glenn Duncan Elementary School, principal at Diedrichsen Elementary School, principal at Echo Loder World Culture Academy and now the Area 5 superintendent. I look forward to our work together in supporting your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

My name is Dr. Byron Green and I am the Area Superintendent of Options. I am privileged to serve the students and families in the Washoe County School District. It is my belief that many students’ educational needs are best met in a non-traditional setting and that all students should be provided a variety of options leading to graduation. While each school in the Options Area is unique, the goal of supporting all students is universal, as is the belief that each student deserves a high-quality education.

My experience in education has been diverse. I taught for nine years prior to becoming an administrator. Prior to joining the Washoe County School District, I served as an assistant principal, principal, Director of Recruitment, and most recently as the Director of Instruction in Southern Nevada. Over the past 20 years, I have dedicated myself to promoting an environment of academic excellence and instructional leadership by helping all students become the best that they can be.

I welcome questions and am available to provide assistance. Please contact me at 775-789-4604.
