Register for School

Elementary, Middle and High School

The first day of school will be a full day with lunch and regular bus service (except for Kindergarten). Returning students must register each year. When registering new students you will need to bring your child’s birth certificate or passport, immunization record from your health care provider, and a utility bill showing your name and address as proof of residence. Students who are younger than 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to register.

All students should register BEFORE the first day of school at your child’s zoned school.

PLEASE CONTACT YOUR ZONED SCHOOL FOR REGISTRATION DATES AND TIMES. FIRST GRADE - students who will be 6 years old on or before Sept. 30, 2011, but who DID NOT:

  • complete a state accredited kindergarten program;
  • complete a private kindergarten program licensed by the Nevada Department of Education; or
  • complete a register home school program

MUST pass the First Grade Admission Test before being enrolled in First Grade. Please contact your child's zoned school for an appointment. If you are not sure which school your child should attend, log on to www.washoe.k12.nv.us/schools/zoning_search/ and type in your address.

Immunizations

Immunizations are a state requirement for students attending Washoe County schools. Please make sure your child’s immunizations are up to date.

PLEASE NOTE: There are new immunization requirements for students who are entering 7th grade, as well as other immunization requirements that will affect students who are coming from out of state or who are entering Kindergarten. Specific vaccine information can be obtained on the WCSD website at www.washoe.k12.nv.us/schools/backtoschool/ or by contacting the Washoe County District Health Department at 328-3724.

In anticipation of the busy “Back to School” season, please review your child’s immunization record and make arrangements with your community immunization provider (see below). If you have questions regarding your child’s specific immunizations, contact the school health office at your child’s school.

Kindergarten

A child must reach his/her fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2011 to attend kindergarten this year. During the week of August 30-September 3, kindergarten students at schools with Traditional schedules will come to school only for an early-success screening. Please contact your child's school for a screening appointment. Kindergarten students only begin regular class the second week of school on Tuesday, September 6 for schools on Traditional schedules.

Registration

Registration runs from 8:30 to 3:30 daily. All schools will register at this time. Bring:

  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Shot Record
  • Social Security Number, if you have one for the child (optional)
  • Proof of Residency, power or telephone bill

First Graders New to the District

First-grade students must take the First Grade Admission Test if the child:

  • Did not attend an accredited kindergarten;
  • Did not attend a private kindergarten program licensed by the Nevada Department of Education; or
  • Were home schooled without the approval of the WCSD.

Elementary School, Grade 1-6

Parents are reminded that all students need to be registered during your school's specified times in order to complete the registration forms. Contact your child's school for registration details.

Middle School, grades 7-8

Registration dates and times vary. Contact your school for details. Students should report to the school for which they are zoned. Transfer students from outside the school district or students with questions about their schedules should contact the school office before the first day of school.

High School, Grades 9-12

Registration dates and times vary. Contact your school for details. High school students who registered previously should have received information in the mail. Students new to the school district should make an appointment with a school counselor by calling the school for which they are zoned before the first day of school. High school students younger than 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to register.

Washoe Innovations Academy (formerly known as Washoe High School)

Please call 333-5150 for specific dates and times regarding intake, registration and orientation. Registration and orientation take approximately 90 minutes. High school students younger than 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to register. Student must bring a referral and transcript from current school and be a 3rd or 4th year high school student (10, 11 or 12 grade year). Students new to the District must present an original birth certificate and immunization records. Special Education students must have a transition IEP prior to enrolling.

Bus Transportation

Bus transportation begins the first day of school and will be provided to elementary students who live more than 1 mile from school, middle school students who live more than 2 miles and high school students who live more than 3 miles. Students whose routes have been declared hazardous by the Board of Trustees also will be bused.

Special Education

Washoe County School District serves students with special needs from ages 3 through 21. Registration for special education students follows the same procedure as for general education students.
 
NEW STUDENTS: Special Education students new to the Washoe County School District report to the school for which they are zoned.
 
RETURNING STUDENTS: Returning Special Education students report to the school they attended last year unless otherwise instructed by the Special Education Department.

Special Education Bus Service

To receive bus service beginning on the first day of school, parents or guardians of students who will be attending the same school/program as last year MUST fill out the student transportation form that was sent home with your child in June.
 
Parents of students with disabilities who receive specialized transportation as a related service must update transportation forms at their child's school as soon as possible in order for the student to be picked up on the first day of school. In order for specialized transportation to be provided, updated transportation forms must be updated at least annually at the child's school of enrollment.
 
NEW special education students needing bus service can complete bus forms at the schools.


English Language Learners (ELL)

Students NEW to the Washoe County School District who speak a language other than English are required by Federal law to take an English language test to determine their level of English proficiency.
 
Non-English, limited, and fluent English speaking students entering grades 1 to 6 register at their zoned school.
 
For new students who speak a language other than English, grades 7-12, testing and registration locations are listed on our website: www.washoe.k12.nv.us/schools/backtoschool/

Students will also receive information about transportation to their school. Testing and registration is scheduled for Monday, August 15, through Friday, August 26, from 8:00-2:00 p.m.

INSCRIPCIÓN PARA NUEVOS ESTUDIANTES Y QUE NO HABLAN INGLÉS.
Estudiantes Nuevos al distrito (WCSD) que hablan un idioma distinto al inglés se les requiere por Ley Federal, que tomen una prueba del idioma inglés para determinar su nivel de capacidad.
 
Estudiantes que no hablan el idioma inglés, inglés limitado, y los estudiantes que hablan el inglés fluido entrando a los grados 1 al 6 pueden registrarse en su escuela de zona.
 
Estudiantes Nuevos al distrito (WCSD) que hablan otro idioma diferente al inglés, en grados 7-12, localidades para los exámenes iniciales y registraciones están localizados en nuestra página web.
 
Por favor, permita de una a dos horas para el examen. El personal de las escuelas le explicara al estudiante a cual escuela deben registrarse y cuales clases de ELL (ESL) serán ofrecidas. Incline High School:

7:48 a.m.-2:02 p.m.

("Zero" period classes start at 6:55 a.m.) Registration will begin in August. Book deposits ($20 for incoming freshman and new students), Student Body Cards ($20) and Yearbooks ($65) should be paid at this time.

Counselors will be available during registration hours. Counselors are assigned to students by alphabet: Alana Brown A-K, Faith Nicole L-Z. High school students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in order to enroll.

Athletic Packets and "Pink Slips" to participate in fall sports will also be available beginning in August . The Student Body Card fee ($20) and Athletic Transportation fee ($25) must be paid in order to receive "Pink Slips."

Incline Middle School:

7:55 a.m. -2:14 p.m.

Registration packets for all students will be available beginning in August , from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All forms in the packet must be completed and signed. When packets are returned, students will receive their class schedules.

Students new* to the district should call the middle school office at 832-4220 for an appointment with the counselor.


Incline Elementary School

Grades K-2: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Grades 3-5: 9:10 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

Registration for new* students starts in August. Early School Success Screenings for kindergarten students are held the first week of school. Call 832-4240 or 832-4250 with any questions.

*New Students: To enroll, bring a certified copy of the student's birth certificate or passport and immunization record from your health care provider. A utility bill is necessary for proof of residency. The student's Social Security number also is requested.


Washoe Adult Program:

Offers Adult Diploma and GED classes

The Washoe Adult program also offers ESL classes. The cost for ESL registration is $30.00 and they will receive 3 new books. We have morning and evening classes.
