American Lung Association - Freedom From Smoking

Program description: Eight sessions, one hour per week, group format provides education, decision-making tools, cessation strategies, withdrawal coping behaviors, and relapse prevention choices to support and guide people through the process of replacing smoking habits with healthy actions.
Cost: $25 to $35 for course materials. Also available online for free at www.lungusa.org.
American Lung Association – N-O-T (Not On Tobacco) – Smoking cessation for teens

Program description: Ten session, one hour per week, group format with diverse education and support in tobacco cessation and reduction strategies, daily life management skills, and coping with stress and interpersonal pressures. Also provides booster sessions for ongoing support.
Cost: Free.
Carson-Tahoe Hospital - Tobacco Cessation Program

Program Description: Classes run on a 12-week block. Participants must be screened/evaluated before 1st class. Program is run by a Psychologist and Respiratory Therapist and is individualized, which means that each person is assessed and a treatment program developed on an individual basis in order to neutralize the addiction to tobacco.
Cost: $25 per week. There may be an additional cost for the screening/evaluation.

Program Description: Provides confidential and individualized telephone based nicotine dependence treatment, in both English and Spanish, by certified Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Counselors. Education and information is available for people moving towards a tobacco free lifestyle.
Cost: Free. May also be able to provide reduced cost nicotine replacement therapy.
Saint Mary's - Breathe Easy

Program description: This program consists of four 1-1/2 hour classes taught by a registered nurse. In a supportive atmosphere, participants learn to recognize smoking triggers and replace them with healthier activities. With assistance, participants create an individualized quit plan designed to help them overcome obstacles on their journey to becoming tobacco free for life. Individual consultations and worksite classes are available.
Cost: $75 community, $25 for Saint Mary's HealthFirst members, Health Choice members, Saint Mary's employees and volunteers. Prices effective through 12/31/05.
Washoe Health and Wellness Programs – Quit for Good

Program Description: Program meets once a week for four weeks. Provides a support group environment and individualized instruction for each participant. The program includes 2 Pulmonary Function tests, which measure lung capacity. The first test is performed at the start of the program and the second test is offered 6 months after the participant stops smoking.
Cost: $180. Insurance may cover some or all of the cost.
