We have an exciting month coming up at SSES! We have a book fair going on right now until Feb. 8th. We have our Winterfest coming up on Tuesday, the 7th at 6PM. We will be conducting science experiments and selling and promoting reading. This is a celebration of books and science and getting our community together in honor of our children. Please join us. 5th grade Writing Test is going on this week. The students are being tested differently this year. They are required to type their essay instead of write it. This is makes more sense in our technology age. I am excited we are having our first annual family dance coming up on Feb. 13th. Bring the whole family for a fun night of dancing and good times. I am excited to announce that Mrs. DeLucchi has been awarded the Social Studies Teacher of the Year for WCSD elementary teachers. All her hard work with her Social Studies projects has finally been recognized. Our students are lucky to have such an experienced teacher. **BARNES & NOBLE MY FAVORITE TEACHER**

I would like to invite your school to participate in the Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher program. This contest gives teachers a chance to be recognized in our community for the important work they do.

Here’s how the contest works.  Your students will be encouraged to write an essay or poem describing their favorite teacher and how that person has influenced and inspired them.  You will collect the entries and submit them to me, your local Barnes & Noble representative, by March 1.  A group of judges from Barnes & Noble and our local community will choose the winners and recognize both the teachers and the students at a special ceremony during Educator Appreciation Week at Barnes & Noble.

One winning teacher will be chosen from the appropriate category: grades 1-5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12. Each winner will receive a special award acknowledging their achievement and a selection of Barnes & Noble Leather-bound Classics series (for high school teachers); and a set of five (5) Classic Starts® series (for grades 1-5 and grades 6-8 teachers)

Winners by category will also be entered in the regional contest where the regional winners will each receive a NOOK™ eBook Reader, a $500 Barnes & Noble Gift Card-and the chance to become the national winner of the “Barnes & Noble Teacher of the Year” award. The Barnes & Noble “Teacher of the Year” will receive $5,000 and will be recognized at a special event at a Barnes & Noble store.  The winning teacher’s school will receive $5,000 as well.  The students who write the winning essays or poems will receive a certificate of recognition and will be honored at their local store during the ceremony for the winning teachers.

This is also a terrific vehicle to develop your student’s writing skills and to showcase their creativity.  I will be happy to email you the entry form (or drop copies off at your school).  Please encourage your students to consider participating and writing about their favorite teacher.
