Welcome to Spanish Springs High School. As one of the newest comprehensive high schools in the Washoe County School District, I am pleased to report that our high school has achieved outstanding recognition, awards and achievement during our first seven years of operation. With one of the largest building floor plans in our school district, we are thrilled to have 14 science labs (6 biology, 2 chemistry, 1 physics and 5 general science rooms), 5 computer labs, an extraordinary vocational/occupational facility complete with an auto, welding, woodworking, and CAD drafting labs, a state of the art Business and "Company" center, a well designed and equipped culinary arts center and child development lab, an extensive Fine Arts wing which houses the visual arts, music, drama and publications programs with a 500 seat performing arts theatre, a well designed and highly functional library and career center, and a 3,000 seat regional gymnasium.
Our school demographics consist of the following. We currently have a teaching staff of 114 teachers with a student enrollment of grades 9-12 of nearly 2,300 students, who come from a diverse student population who reside mainly in the suburban Spanish Springs area and northern valleys located to north of Sparks, Nevada. Our curriculum is comprised of a combination of required and elective courses in English, math, science, social studies, foreign language, business, vocational, family and consumer science, fine arts, physical education, health, ROTC, special education, alternative education and English as a Second Language. We offer both regular education classes, honors classes and advanced placement(AP) courses in our curriculum. Our school support staff consists of 5 administrators, 7 counselors, a librarian, a college coordinator, a part time psychologist and speech therapist, a clinic aide, two campus supervisors, a full time school police officer, several secretaries, custodians and kitchen staff.
We have an outstanding high school that offers a wide array of academic, athletic and extra-curricular programs. The school, many organizational groups, individual students and staff members have won numerous awards and recognitions over the past seven years, which are too numerous to list here, but can be viewed on our annual school Accountability Reports under Principal Highlights.
Our school's Mission Statement reads: SSHS will provide a supportive, respectful and innovative education environment resulting in A Culture of Excellence. We have an exceedingly experienced, well-trained, well educated and highly motivated staff of teachers, administrators and counselors who are committed to providing an outstanding education for our students and achieving our school mission. I am pleased to be a part of such an excellent high school.
Sincerely,
Tasha Fuson-Principal
