WCSD District Site Guidelines

All pages on the main WCSD website must comply with the following requirements

  • Each office / department will maintain the content they are responsible for on the district web site.
  • Each office / department is responsible for providing an individual(s) that will be responsible for that office / departments web content.
  • No district office / department shall build a site outside of the district CMS (Content Management System).

       Training will be made available for instruction on using the WCSD web site control panel.

Content

  • Site administrators or department heads are responsible for the content of their site.
  • All content must be reviewed by site administrator before going live.
  • Correct grammar and spelling must be used.
  • Persons who create and maintain web pages will edit the pages for accuracy of links, and check for conformance with standards outlined in these guidelines on a regular basis.
  • Content must be directly related to the WCSD mission and not in conflict with any district policies, rules or regulations.
  • Content may not violate any federal, state or local laws.
  • No advertisements for any product or service may appear on official District web pages. Logos for paid or free subscribed services and education related links are excluded.
  • Links to pages that are "under construction" should not be created and should be removed. Pages sent for approval but not yet completed will be denied approval. 
  • Site must contain an email address to contact the person responsible for updating the site.

      Example Template

      CSM Specific

  • All page properties content must be completed. This includes a brief description of the page and page specific keywords.
  • All content blocks must be completed. This include the "main_content_header" and "side_bar_header"

      Style / Readability

  • Content should be well organized and be relative to the intended audience.
  • The district site uses a style sheet to control font and style. Users should not override the style sheet to change font styles, colors, or weight. Pages sent for approval that have overridden the style sheet will be denied.
  • Content should be left justified unless absolutely necessary.

Video

  • Video which is inappropriate in content, blurry, unsteady, or difficult to view will not be posted.
  • Audio that is difficult to hear or inappropriate in content will not be posted.
  • Content must be of a nature as to speak to unique aspects of the school or community life.
  • Final discretion as to whether a media file is placed on the WCSD website rests with the Website Administrator.

Privacy

  • Personal contact information for students, parents, and faculty, including home and e-mail addresses, telephone numbers, and other information will not be published on any website.
  • In order for student names, photographs and projects to be included on the public area of the WCSD website, there must be a release signed by the student's parent or legal guardian on file.

Publishing of Photographs

  • Photos add much to the interest and visual appeal of sites. They can help with understanding of activities and programs. Care must be taken, however, to avoid including personal information about subjects.
  • Student photos should illustrate the activity and may not be individual portraits. Captions should identify the activity but not identify the students by name. Addresses and phone numbers of students must never be used.
  • Pictures of students may only be used after securing the written and dated permission of the student's parent or guardian.
  • To enable a faster downloading time, scanned photographs should be limited to 72 dpi.
  • Files for download must be under 8 MB (where applicable).

Copyright

  • District, school and departmental pages will not use text, graphics, multimedia or copyrighted material without the written consent of the author. When used, such material must acknowledge the source.
