Develop a web site using html

Developing a site using standard html and a text editor or WYSIWYG editor can be fun and creative. Developing your schools site this way will give you the most out of your site in terms of design and layout. Unfortunately in return your site can be hard to maintain.

Keep it simple and then expand
One thing you will always need to keep in mind is will I be able to continue to maintain this site. If your site gets too big you may get to the point where you will not have the time to maintain it any longer. If you have to hand off the site to someone else will he/she be able to maintain it with minimal knowledge?

How do I get started?
Contact the web development department at mmorris@washoeschools.net. We will provide you with the necessary username and passwords required to access the server where your school's files will reside.
Note: The school site administrator is the only one that can make this request.

Where can I get help in learning how to develop a website?
Here are links to some of the best tutorial sites on the web. Some of the sites may have code content that will not be suitable in developing your site. Please check the school web guidelines if you have questions on what you can and cannot do.

  • W3schools.com - Excellent resource for learning HTML and many other coding languages.
  • Webmonkey.com - Not as straight forward as W3schools.com but a good resource just the same.

WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) Webpage editor.
