Audiology
What is Audiology?
An Audiologist may be requested for a child on an IEP who has difficulty with hearing. An Audiologist may be able to assist a student between the ages of 3 and 22 with identification of hearing loss, coordination of hearing referrals from school district personnel and community resources, diagnosis of hearing impairment using comprehensive testing in a sound booth, evaluation of hearing abilities to establish auditory skill development and to determine hearing function in various communication and learning settings, selection and fitting of appropriate assistive listening devices, determination of appropriate instructional modifications and accommodations, and ensuring that amplification of the equipment is working properly.
How do I refer a child to an audiologist?
The student may be referred by the school, Speech and Language Pathologist, teacher, or nurse. The parent is notified that there is a concern and is asked to contact the Audiology Office at 333-5017. The audiologist will then schedule a date and time to do an assessment with the child. The results from the assessment are given to the parent and a copy is sent to the student's school.
