Teachers Learn Six Writing Traits through the Writingfix.org
Through two grants ($25,000 each) from SBC Nevada and AT & T Foundation, the Education Foundation has been able to provide two 16-hour in-service classes to our elementary teachers on the Six Writing Traits via the Writingfix.org. During the 2005-06 school year, more than 80 teachers from our 10 participating elementary schools enrolled in a 16-hour, in-service training on the Writingfix.org. This is an interactive web site that enhances teacher instruction of writing based on the Six Traits of Writing. The class was taught by the Northern Nevada Writing Project Technology Cadre and has been overwhelmingly successful. After the first year, 50 lessons plans involving the Six Writing Traits were developed and placed on the website by participating teachers for use by anyone who logs on it the web site. For the 2006-07 year teachers will develop lesson plans for Young Adult Literature (4th-8th grade).
